Florence Kajuju

Florence was at one point the vice chairperson of Law Society of Kenya (LSK). During her campaigns she overcame all odds to win against the strong Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) wave in her backyard. The impetus to seek a platform to represent the people of Meru was created by the pro bono cases she undertook in the years she practiced law in Meru.

  • 12 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. On 30th October, I requested the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology to give us a Statement or a response on a student at Antwanduru Secondary School who was barred from taking examinations just because she had given birth two weeks before the examinations. I was promised that the answer was to come on Wednesday last week, but I have not received any answer up to today. Hon. Deputy Speaker, this was an urgent matter that needed a quick response. I am requesting direction on when I am going to get ... view
  • 12 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. I am opposed to that amendment in the sense that when you put the words, “jointly owned” this property is not registered in the joint names of the parties and so it will not be able to form matrimonial property. What we are trying to protect is the family unit. We do not live in utopia. We know that in our society it is very rare for a woman to be registered jointly in a property that is owned by the family. We have had situations where it is the man only who is ... view
  • 12 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: I am opposed to the words “Jointly owned”. Actually I had agreed with the Mover of the amendment that it should not affect the amendment. Their committal in Clause 6 should not affect part (c). We had agreed on that, but now they have brought other amendments to clause (c). view

  • 24 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support the Motion as amended. I would like this National Assembly to know that the PAP was established to ensure that there is participation of the people of Africa in governance and economic regional integration in the continent. The PAP gives the people of Africa a common platform to address the issues that affect our people at the grassroots level. There are so many challenges and problems that have beset Africa. The PAP has the legislative function to address the issues that are raised by the people of Africa. The PAP does not have ... view

  • 17 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I second The Matrimonial Property Bill. In seconding it, I would like to take note of the fact that the National Assembly has noted that since time immemorial there have been very many matrimonial disputes which were settled under the Married Women Property Act of 1882. Those are the laws that we inherited from our forefathers. view
  • 17 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: This House has the capacity now to rectify the situation and domesticate a law that can apply to our people, so that we have home-grown laws instead of having laws that have been practised for such a long time and have not been domesticated. view
