Internship is important. It is where our graduates get experience. As it has been said, most of the employers ask for ten or five years experience and our youth have just graduated. So, it is good that this Authority will be able to arrange internship for our youth and they will get the experience that is required so that they can get the necessary jobs.

Lastly, in regard to the 30 per cent tender policy that we passed recently which Hon. Sakaja also brought up, it is important for Hon. Sakaja to follow up with the counties to find out how the policy is fairing on. We need to do an audit through the Ministry of Devolution and Planning because what is happening in the counties might shock you. We already have women, youth, and persons with disabilities. I would like to know which groups are “disadvantaged groups.”

Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, it is important for people to know that the 30 per cent is working very well. In Busia County, it has taken off. As it is right now, they are coming to Nairobi all the time to access some of those company documents.

Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to contribute on this Motion. The sugar sector is currently facing many challenges and there is a very urgent need to save the industry. We have a lot of cheap imports coming in. The COMESA deadline is with us and it is a great concern to us Kenyans. I must say that I am a member of the Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Committee. We have done a lot of work with regard to the Report that is related to the sugar sector. I must report that the Committee has ...
