  • 26 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: We need to look into that first. Our Report has really covered a lot of these issues that our Members are discussing. It will be good if our Report comes next week hopefully because we are going for a retreat to finish it. After that we will be able to articulate issue by issue because right now Members are just talking about privatisation which is just one aspect that is affecting the sugar industry. We need fresh injection of capital for the poorly performing Government-owned mills. It is urgent and this issue needs to be looked at also, but before ... view

  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I am happy to stand and second the Persons with Disability (Amendment) Bill. I would like to state that television is the only channel that the deaf people can get information. It is unfortunate that if deaf persons do know how to read, they can only know what is happening through television as modes of transmission in the world. Our Constitution is very clear on the Bill of rights and it gives right to information to all people, regardless of gender, race or disability. Blind people can listen to news, people with other sorts ... view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir. I rise to support the amendment by hon. Shebesh for the County Women Representative to be the champions of the Uwezo Fund at the county level. I am supporting this because most of the other funds, like the Youth Enterprise Development Fund and the Women Enterprise Development Fund have fallen through because they did not have a champion. view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Fund will grow if it has a champion in the name of the County Women Representative because as champions, we will do what we know best. We are very good at publicising and raising awareness. We will do this very well through capacity building, which is clear in the amendment. Another issue is that we are very good at table banking. That has basically been our role even with women groups at home. So, we are going to take Uwezo Fund to a higher level and uplift the livelihoods of women and youth in the counties. This amendment has brought ... view

  • 6 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Speaker, Sir. I wholly support the amendment as proposed by hon. Wandayi. We must kill the culture of impunity in this country regardless of gender. One must be held accountable as an individual for any act of omission or commission in discharging their duties as State officers. The issue of unnecessary appointments, undeserved promotions and creation of offices arbitrarily should end. It is only hon. Members in this House who can sincerely and collectively bring this sort of impunity to an end. We should stop playing with people’s emotions. This happens especially when it is a lady ... view
