Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this chance to contribute on squatters. I support squatters in Meru County. The issue of squatters has been very difficult in this country. Personally, I speak as one of them having been brought up in the Village Market with a group of people who later went to Githurai. If you look at the squatters of today, you will find that they were evicted from coffee farms. If you look at Kiambu County, you will see that it is cosmopolitan. We have different tribes who are squatters. We have the Luo, Luhya and others ...

people have suffered when it comes to getting identity cards. This has been happening since Independence and the sect members have suffered. In my constituency, which is cosmopolitan, I also have members of the Luhyia community who also put on headscarf. When these people try to get identity cards they are not allowed by the chiefs. There was a case in my constituency where eight girls were sent home because of putting on headscarf, since they are Akorino . It is now time for the national Government to support the wearing of turbans. I support.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. I also support and cite a case in Juja Constituency where there is water that belongs to the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF). The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

Yesterday, the residents had a meeting with the county government. It is trying to take over a well-managed water resource by residents of Murera Ward. So, I support what the Chair is doing because the conflict is too big between the county government and the national Government over water that belongs to the CDF. I support.

Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I support. Water is life. For example, Juja Constituency does not have any water Board. We depend on Ruiru and Thika districts. You can imagine institutions like the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenyatta University (KU) and the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies which are in my constituency, and yet I do not sit anywhere to talk about the problems that are facing my constituency. I support this amendment. County governments are now telling us, as Members of Parliament, that they have taken over the provision of water. They do not involve us ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I really commend the Committee for doing a very good job. Water is life. I thank the Committee for sitting down and looking at various issues, especially in Juja Constituency. Between Ruiru and Thika, we have been having problems. When I look at it, you have covered everything. Madam Chairperson, I thank you. God bless you.
