  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Since we had withdrawn Members and we have only put new ones – and not the same Members who were there - in my very strong opinion, I feel that the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs was not properly constituted at the time when those deliberations took place. view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. You have to protect me from some Members because when they speak, I always keep quiet however irritated I feel. So, it is the same. They should listen to what I am saying. If you dispute, rise and say your point and I will listen to you however incorrect it is. view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: In your very wise considered ruling, which I know you will give, I also want you, for this country to progress properly--- There is one Joint Select Committee of both Houses that both Jubilee and CORD have negotiated and which have to give a report within 30 days to this House. Their work is still being diluted by the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Chepkong’a is my very good friend. We respect each other. I cannot say something in a disrespectful manner because I respect him. But for this country to move forward, even on The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: that Joint Select Committee which is working here, their biggest fear is that we are running parallel committees. We should give them room to do their work and report to this House? We negotiated through many demonstrations and loss of property. A matatu was burnt and there was loss of life. Can we give that Committee room to deliberate and reform the electoral laws of this country? Their complaint is that the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs is running a parallel Committee and we do not know under whose orders. view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: To finish, I just want you to consider only those two points; the Members who have been forwarded to the Committee are new and the Members we withdrew did not participate in those deliberations. Was that Committee properly constituted under the Standing Orders? view
  • 19 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. view
  • 5 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Thank you, Leader of the Majority Party for those very good platitudes. I am happy you still remember that you used to sing for me when I was a Cabinet Minister during those good days. I rise to second this Motion. It is a very important Motion because we all need electoral reforms. We need the laws to be relooked. We need a very clean and transparent electoral register. We also need issuance of identification cards (IDs). This Select Committee should look at all issues that refer to elections. One issue that has stood out very ... view
  • 5 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Some IEBC commissioners have volunteered to resign. I urge the Members of this House and the Select Committee to accept the resignation of those commissioners. Let us support that position and give them the packages they deserve, so that they can show the way out. view
  • 5 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, when two teams go for a match, the referee has to be impartial. If one of the teams is not happy, the match cannot take place. I am happy that is now water under the bridge. I must thank the three CORD Principals, namely, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, Hon. Raila Odinga and Hon. Wetangula, as well as His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Deputy President, Hon. William Ruto, for seeing the light and showing the way by allowing the formation of this Select Committee, to avoid further loss of lives and property. The step they took will unite ... view
