  • 17 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, that must be a very significant amount. That is why it was difficult for the hon. Member to pronounce the word “insignificant.” So it must be a very significant amount. view
  • 17 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: That was with a light touch, Mr. Speaker, Sir. It is only one month before the next financial year when we will add Kshs22 million for road maintenance to each constituency. So, Kshs4 million plus Kshs22 million is, in fact, Kshs26 million. view
  • 17 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is no doubt about that and there is no hiding. The rain was so much that so many of our roads were destroyed. We continue to do assessments because the rains are still ongoing. So, it would be misleading to say that we have come to the conclusion of assessing the damage on our roads. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Finance has already given us funds which are contained in the current Budget Estimates or allocations for that attention and we expect them to consider us just in case emergency cases ... view
  • 17 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, we are committed to rehabilitating all our roads in the country and I assure the hon. Member that when that time comes in accordance with our road sector investment programme, we will handle that situation accordingly. view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to apologise to the hon. Member as he has not received the written reply that we submitted to the Speaker’s office. Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that there are a few outstanding works on Mwitasyano Bridge. These works could not be completed due to the exhaustion of funds. (b) I have instructed the Kenya Rural Roads Authority to finance the outstanding works during the next Financial Year, 2010/11. (c) As stated above, my Ministry has forwarded the cost estimate needed to do the repairs to the respective ... view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to assure the hon. Member that we are committed to doing these bridges and completing them. It is true that this bridge was commenced on 2nd June, 2006 at a tender sum of Kshs58,301,653. The completion date was expected to be 2nd April, 2007, with a defect liability period of 24 months. Due to inadequacy of funds the project was not completed. We inspected that bridge on the 23rd of March this year to make sure that we were able to estimate the cost of the remaining works. I am also aware that there ... view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: I know that is another Question but it is within the purview of my Ministry. Yes, it is true I visited that bridge and I understand the meaning of the words “Ngai Ndethya”; it means God with us when you are crossing the bridge. I assured the hon. Member that we would do it, and my assurance stands. I keep my word and I would want to do that all the time. view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: It is quite impressive that there is local technology for making bridges. I would really want to benefit from that technology, because it is much easier to use it. We design bridges because we want them to last. We design them because we want them to be safe for our people to cross. We also use materials within the neighbourhoods. So, I believe that is the local technology the hon. Member is talking about. We use local materials and local labour for such works. I will be talking to the hon. Member later to be given the details on local ... view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have noted the comments and the seriousness with which hon. Members take the work of the House. I will get the matter reported at the next Cabinet meeting. view
  • 16 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to thank the Member for that question. I am sorry because he may not have been here yesterday when we gave a reply on Garissa-Nuno-Wajir-Mandera Road. That is on our table. We are committed to do it the same way we are committed to Voi-Taveta Road and Eldoret-Kitale-Lodwar Road into Nedapal. Those are very good connectivity roads that will give us the benefit of trading with our neighbours and they are also good for security reasons. view
