Mr. Speaker, Sir, we received the initial Statement from the Ministry and are still looking at it as a Committee. We cannot issue this particular Statement before the Committee goes through the response that came from the Ministry. I will ask for about two weeks.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, we had requested for time for this Statement to come on Thursday, next week. This morning, the Committee had a meeting. We should be having a meeting with the concerned Cabinet Secretary on Tuesday, next week. I believe that by Thursday, next week, we should come here with a substantive Statement.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity. I also want to thank you for allocating time to discuss this important matter. I agree with the Mover that, indeed, this is a national crisis and we should not shy away from discussing it. I want to remind Members of this Senate that our first responsibility, as a Senate is, indeed, to protect the counties and their governments. governments from. It is now coming out clear who we are supposed to protect our county governments from. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the county assemblies are an integral part of the county governments. Therefore, it is our responsibility, as the Senate, to make sure that the county assemblies are well protected and functioning but when county assemblies are on strike, it becomes our responsibility to ensure that things come back to normalcy.
