  • 10 Feb 2020 in Senate: With the demise of the late former President Moi, the sun has set on a life of a man who had the greatest influence on the socio-economic and political landscape of our country. For me, he was not just my President, but my mentor, and was like a parent to me. He introduced me to politics in 1996 when my father passed on. I was a third-year student at a university in the United States of America (USA). He made me vie to replace my father. He came personally for two days and camped in my constituency, Hamisi. Sen. Yusuf ... view

  • 10 Feb 2020 in Senate: Attorney -General, and at the same time, the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, in the name of the late Zacchaeus Chesoni. So, we felt like we were part of the Government; not just us, but all communities. In Ukambani, they always had four Cabinet Ministers. Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., you were not here. I was in Parliament and served with them. They always had four. Right now, they have zero. Makueni County zero, Machakos County zero and Kitui County zero. We are all saying we were students of President Moi and he mentored us. Why can we not ... view
  • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: On a point of Order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I had pressed before Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. took the Floor. I would like to emphasize the point that has been raised by the Senate Minority Leader and supported by the Senate Minority Whip. In my entire life in Parliament; four terms in the other Chamber and two terms in this Chamber, I have never seen anything like this. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Senate Majority Leader has a choice. If he does not believe in the Motion, then let him cede ground, so that somebody else moves it, then he will come ... view

  • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it will be very wrong if the statements that have been made by Sen. Omanga go unchallenged and remain in the HANSARD. She has clearly stated that this House disregarded the issue of threshold. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is my submission that no evidence was put on the Table here to prove to us that the County Assembly of Kiambu did not meet the threshold. Is she, therefore, in order, because she is imputing improper motives on this House? view
  • 29 Jan 2020 in Senate: On a point of Order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 99 which talks about declaration of interest. We know that there is a matter that is awaiting your ruling on the pecuniary interest of the Senator for Murang’a County in this matter. We were told clearly that he is a partner in the law firm that was defending the Governor. Our Standing Orders are clear. Standing Order 99 states that; ‘A Senator who wishes to speak on any matter in which the Senator has a pecuniary or proprietary interest shall first declare that ... view

  • 20 Nov 2019 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I begin by thanking my elder brother, the Senator for Bungoma County, for raising this important matter. For those of us who studied political science, it is simple. Political science 101 states that the first responsibility of any Government is, one, to protect the lives of its people and their property. Two, is to protect its territory. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, the statement that came from the Foreign Affairs and International Trade CS is unfortunate---. Any Government that cannot protect its territory has no business calling itself a Government. view
