  • 1 Aug 2019 in Senate: “We, the undersigned citizens of the Republic of Kenya from different parts of the country and abroad, and the True North Society draw the attention of the Senate to the following - 1. THAT, currently, there is no law which compels the Government of Kenya to care for military veterans especially, those who suffered from past occupational illness resulting from official military duties. 2. THAT, as a result of the neglect, many retired service men and women are living miserable lives together with their families with most dying prematurely. 3. THAT, currently, Military veterans and their families suffer from post- ... view
  • 1 Aug 2019 in Senate: delay in payment of gratuity and pension, inability to afford and access mental health care for self and family and difficulty in transitioning and reintegration into the society. Widows and their children cannot afford legal fees to pursue their entitlements as beneficiaries in cases of rejection by the soldiers’ family of origin. 7. THAT, those military veterans dismissed on grounds of mental health illness are locked out of employment opportunities thus lack the ability to support themselves and their families. Consequently, some are turning to violent crime. 8. THAT, we confirm efforts were first made to address these issues through ... view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to join you and my colleagues who have spoken before me, first of all, to welcome the great delegation from Estonia. I have been to Estonia. I was in Tallinn last October. It is a beautiful place to be with good tourist sites. The botanical gardens are amazing. The TV Tower is an amazing place to be, with a very good view. I want to thank them for choosing to learn about bicameral relationship from Kenya. We are new in that system; we adopted the bicameral system ... view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in Senate: I also want to join my colleagues in welcoming the two schools, one from Bungoma County and the other one from Nairobi City County. I wish them well in their academics. As Sen. Sakaja said, all dreams are valid. I encourage them to make their dreams and focus on them, but above all, work hard and believe in God. I wish you well. view

  • 30 Jul 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, allow me to thank my neighbour and the Senator for Kakamega County, Sen. Malalah, for raising this important and sensitive issue. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 acknowledges our diversity. However, instead of diversity being our strength, it has become our weakness. The reason we have problems after every election cycle is because there are communities that feel that they have been marginalized since Independence in terms of sharing of resources and appointments in high Government positions. This matter must be addressed if we are to have any peaceful elections in this country. Every community must feel part ... view

  • 23 Jul 2019 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I am sorry I had to interrupt my good friend and namesake. The contents of this Bill are well known to all of us. We know what we are seeking for and we do not need to belabour the point. The figures that the Chairman has put on the Table are scientific and were given by a body mandated in the Constitution to advise on such matters. Therefore, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I request you to call the Mover to reply, so that we conclude debate on this Bill. You should put the question. view
  • 18 Jul 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. On my own behalf and on behalf of the Senator for Bungoma County, who is my elder brother, Sen. Wetangula, I join you and my fellow Senators in welcoming the students from Bungoma County. They have an active Senator here in the name of Sen. Wetangula, who is one of the longest serving Senators, who attends sittings regularly. I think that he is just attending to other matters, but he will be here in due course. I urge the delegation to feel welcomed. I wish them all the best as they continue with their tour ... view
