4 Oct 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me take this opportunity to thank all the Senators who have made their contribution to this Motion starting from those who spoke yesterday, my seconder Sen. Abshiro Halake, Sen. Cheruiyot, Sen. Pareno, Sen. (Dr.) Langat and those to whom I have donated time to today. There is no doubt in my mind that we have all spoken with one voice. We have underscored the importance of the KRCS. We all appreciate them and agree that they are always the first respondent on the scenes of calamities and, therefore, the need for them to be incorporated into ...

3 Oct 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for the opportunity. I beg to move- THAT, WHEREAS Kenya’s disaster profile is dominated by droughts, fire, floods, terrorism, diseases and epidemics that disrupt livelihoods, destroy infrastructure, divert planned use of resources, interrupt economic activities and retard development; FURTHER WHEREAS the Government, through its various agencies, is ultimately responsible for disaster reduction, preparedness and management; COGNIZANT of the fact that Government agencies involved in disaster management are usually overwhelmed when called upon to provide response services during disasters and emergencies; AWARE that the Kenya Red Cross Society Act, Cap 256 of the Laws of ...

3 Oct 2018 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I have just said that it is not duplication, but it will supplement the provisions that are in The Disaster Risk Management Bill (Senate Bills No.8 of 2018). Therefore, the Motion is very timely. I thought I should just proceed and move it. I will leave it to this House to decide. The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) in its current form was established in 1965 through the Society, Act Cap 256 of 1965. Currently, His Excellency the President is the patron of the KRC. The KRCS is premised on the tenets of humanity, impartiality, ...

3 Oct 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I note the importance of the vote that we are supposed to take. I will just finish moving in the next five minutes. I have my seconder, Sen. Halake. I could not get a better seconder than her since she was the Deputy Director of KRCS, deputizing Mr. Abbas Gullet. Therefore, I think she is well versed with the society. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I will go straight to the gist of this Motion. It is trying to find a way where the county and national governments can work in collaboration to see to it that the activities ...

2 Oct 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for the opportunity. I would like to join my colleagues in hailing you and the entire leadership of the Senate for the very well-thought decision of going to Uasin Gishu last week. I also join my colleagues in thanking our host Senator, Prof. Margaret Kamar, for the wonderful way she hosted us together with the entire county government of Uasin Gishu. Going to Uasin Gishu County was a game changer. People are now looking at devolution differently and the Senate in a totally different manner. It was not only a game changer but also ...

2 Oct 2018 in Senate:
One minute will allow me to make a very important point. Mr. Speaker, Sir, you will realise that maize farmers had many meetings with many leaders but the moment the ad hoc Committee led by Sen. Wetangula and Sen. (Prof.) Kamar met them, because of the fury that was exhibited in that meeting, the Government has now acted and the farmers will be paid. So, it benefited the farmers of Eldoret. I thank you.

26 Sep 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, there is not much I can say in three minutes, but let me thank you for the opportunity. I thank the Mover for bringing this very important Motion, so that we can record our thanks and kudos to our great athlete. I wish to add my voice. On behalf of the people of Vihiga and my own behalf, I congratulate Eliud Kipchoge for the achievement that he made for himself and this country. It was not a mean feat; he did us proud. He has put Kenyans on the global map. We are forgetting that he ...

26 Sep 2018 in Senate:
I fully support the Motion and the prayers that have been put across by the Mover and urge all of us to support. We must make sure that it does not end just at the Motion level, but brought back as a Bill in future, to make sure that this is implemented.
