  • 21 Dec 2020 in Senate: to the family of Sen. (Dr.) Kabaka. Indeed, as colleagues have said, Sen. (Dr.) Kabaka was a friend to everyone. He was empathetic and a team player. He would empathize with all colleagues. Anytime he spoke to someone, he had something to tell him or her. I remember last year I took a team of Kenyan players to South Africa. When I told Sen. (Dr.) Kabaka that I was going to South Africa, he gave me the contacts of his sister and linked us up, and we interacted. The sister confirmed that Sen. (Dr.) Kabaka educated all his siblings. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is painful and regrettable that there is an ongoing trend of child trafficking in parts of our country. A recent case of baby trafficking has been going viral not only in social media, but also in the mainstream media as reported on Page 8 of the Daily Nation of 20th November 2020 and on Royal Media Services, Citizen television news on the same date. • 1 Dec 2020 in Senate: News. The street girl expressed frustration and helplessness after her baby was stolen and probably given away. Allow me to quote the girl who said, "Hata kama nikokwa streets sijashindwa kulea", meaning, even if I am on the streets, I am not unable to raise my baby. Mr. Speaker, Sir, there are instances where the media has depicted situations where mothers have claimed that they had been told that their babies had died shortly upon delivery. In some cases, they were shown a dead baby or none. In Kenya, at one time, a bishop claimed to have had powers of ... view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, there are various international legal instruments concerning the rights of children dating as far back as 1921, for instance, the International Convention for the Suppression of Traffic in Women and Children. Further, Kenya is a signatory to the United Nations Convention of the Rights of Children, which has the most comprehensive statement of children's rights and the first to give these rights the force of international law. The salient tenets of the convention of the rights of children are enshrined in Article 53(1(a) to (f) and (2)) of the Constitution of Kenya. Child trafficking infringes on these ... view
