  • 17 Mar 2020 in Senate: Kenyans are watching to see what their leaders are doing. We took oath to serve the people of Kenya. When there is a calamity such as this and the citizens are worried, they look up to us for hope. The COVID-19 will have adverse effects even on the economy of this country. Many things are going to happen but I hope that we can stand with Kenyans at this time. view
  • 17 Mar 2020 in Senate: Hand sanitizers are not easy to come by on the shelves of malls and supermarkets. Last week, I hoped from one supermarket to another looking for hand sanitizers but I was not able to get. Someone told me that they could get me a hand sanitizer from Kenya The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 17 Mar 2020 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, we have the duty to provide leadership at this time, whereas, governors have their position on this issue. The Executive also has its position on this matter. What is the position of the Senate on this matter? We should come up with a policy that will help the country. Kenyans are looking upon to us to come up with legislation that is going to help the common man. Many Kenyans are not on permanent employment, so they wonder how they are going to fend for their families. Our duty is to defend the common man who has ... view
  • 17 Mar 2020 in Senate: On the issue of communication and dissemination of information, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) do not have information on the ways of protecting themselves against COVID-19. The Government should put in place mechanisms to ensure that no one is left behind with regard to relaying information to the common man. The Government Spokesman said that they are going to start a sensitization programme at Mbagathi on Wednesday but all the people that were present were able bodied. Where were the PWDs? The Government needs to do something. view

  • 12 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity to support this Statement. I want to commend Sen. Loitiptip for coming up with this Statement. It should not be taken lightly. I sit in the Committee on Education and there are many times we have discussed about issues of shortage of teachers. If you go to many schools in the counties and especially special schools, you will find that the ratio of teachers to students that is recommended for a special needs children school is undesirable. Teachers play an important role in the life of a child. Teachers mentor children and ... view
  • 12 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is bad and unfair for the children of Kenya if we have teachers who are on internship and yet they are not paid their stipend. It is even very bad for teachers to be interns; they are supposed to be given full employment because there is a shortage of teachers. There is need for the Committee on Education, where I sit, to be serious on the issue of teachers so that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) comes and answers these questions. view
  • 12 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, let make myself very clear. The Senator for Bungoma County should have heard what I mentioned. I said that it is only fair that, if teachers are interns and they have rendered a service, then they should be paid. What is wrong with that? If someone renders a service, then he or she should be paid. Teachers play a very important role in this country. We cannot just keep quiet as we see teachers being treated unfairly. I also commented - kindly allow me to say this so that Kenyans can listen - that we have shortage ... view
