  • 1 Dec 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this time to comment on the Report by the Committee on Health. I commend the Chair, Sen. (Dr.) Mbito, for bringing the Report on the Floor of this House. Health is a core issue. It is a devolved function and an issue that affects all Kenyans. Most of the time, we want to know about the health of our citizens, especially given that it is enshrined in the Constitution that everyone has the right to the highest attainable standards of health. I suppose that the Committee has done a thorough job ... view
  • 11 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to support the Statement by Sen. Nyamunga on classification of SCD as a disability. One thing that must be clear is that PWDs have many challenges. Many times, they cannot manage on their own without the support of others. People with sickle cell anemia have a lot of problems. They cannot manage to do some things on their own. Some of the ways through which they are affected is that--- By the way, it is also called SCD and it has no cure at all. Sometimes it leads to blindness ... view
  • 11 Nov 2021 in Senate: married because of the social perception of their disability and all that. There is need to ensure that this category of people is embraced, just like anybody else, from a human rights perspective approach. I support this Statement. view
  • 10 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to seek a Statement. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48 (1) to request for a Statement from the Standing Committee on Energy on the status of provision of electricity connection in the counties. In the Statement, the committee should- (1) Give the status of rural electrification projects being implemented in the counties, stating the exact locations covered in ensuring that the country achieves 100 per cent connectivity. (2) State the amount of public funds and the number of counties in the Shilling for a Shilling programme (Matching Fund) in ... view
  • 9 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker Sir, for giving me this opportunity to join you in welcoming the visitors in the House. We are happy when people come and to see how we conduct our business. This is good because they can borrow a leaf from us and strengthen their relationship with the Senate. Allow me to thank the Pan African Parliamentary Secretariat for coming this far to see how we transact our business. I heard you mention Hellen Sabwa as a member of the delegation. Hellen Sabwa is known to me. We grew up together and played childhood games such as ... view
  • 9 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to support this Petition. I am a big beneficiary of NDI. I remember before I came to Parliament, I was taken through capacity building sessions and trainings by National Democratic Institute (NDI) because I was coming from a different world. Academia and politics are far apart. Through the NDI courses I came to appreciate the fact that even scholars are supposed to be in politics, so that they can legislate on laws that affect academia. • 9 Nov 2021 in Senate: can also legislate on laws that affect women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). These organizations come in handy when it comes to building capacity. This Petition is coming at a time when I am organizing PWDs in all the wards in Lugari, just to raise awareness through NGOs, so that they can come and train them for them to come to terms that if they are engaged in politics in governance, it will be possible for them to come up with decisions that will help their kind. When it comes to capacity building, these NGOs come in handy and should ... view
  • 4 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this chance to comment on this statement. It is unthinkable for an entire institution to just be brought to an end. When you decide to sack 900 workers, that is an entire institution! There must be something really that is warranting sacking of all these members of staff and workers. I condemn the act of sacking 900 workers. Sacking 900 workers means that you are affecting 900 families. Every worker probably has a wife and children who all depend on him or her as the bread earner in the family. You can ... view
  • 3 Nov 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker, for giving me an opportunity to air my thoughts. All Kenyans have a right to petition. As we look at this Petition, we need to be very clear that the CBC is already very heavily loaded. Right now it is overwhelming students, parents and everyone. As a scholar and teacher for many years, when it comes to chess it can very well fall as a co- curricular activity just as much as swimming is a co-curricular activity, football, darts and all that. They can be in different categories like indoor games, outdoor games, but it ... view
