Gladys Wanga

Gladys grew up in a political family. Her father the late John Nyasuna, was a councillor and chairperson of Kisumu County Council. Gladys emulated him and developed interest in politics at an early age. In 2003, when at Kenyatta University she became the first female to be elected as the Secretary General of the Student’s Union. After University she remained active in politics and engaged in ODM party politics while still working in LVCT Health. In her term of service, she seeks empowerment of women and youth and education for the girl child. In parliament, Gladys spearheaded the formation of the Information and Public Communication committee.

If you are on the gratuity scheme and you got paid your gratuity but you managed to come back to Parliament and you would like to buy back your pension, you will need to pay back the gratuity that you were paid. Deputy Speaker, in the one minute, I would like to say that it is important that if you fall ill, you get your pension or gratuity before you hit the age of 45 years. The reason is that there is an amendment Bill, Bill No.3 of 2019 that will be moved in the afternoon by Hon. Mwadime. After deliberations and discussions with the Mover of the Bill, we feel that this particular amendment of moving the time a Member has served in order to earn pension from two terms to one term is better situated in the comprehensive amendment Bill that will be moved by Hon Mwadime this afternoon. This particular amendment is for older Members who served between 1984 and 2001.
