  • 9 Jun 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for the opportunity to contribute. This being our last Sitting, I would like to start by thanking the Almighty Allah for giving me an opportunity to serve my people of Isiolo North and the people of Isiolo North for electing me to represent them in the 12th Parliament. I also thank you for your guidance. There are several occasions when I had issues in my constituency and sought your guidance. That guidance came in very handy in how I approached the issues. Being a first term MP is not an easy thing to play one’s role ... view
  • 12 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security, regarding the recent insecurity in Isiolo County for the last three months. There has been an influx of armed herders from Samburu County and Laisamis Sub-County of Marsabit County into Isiolo Central Sub-County and Kom Division of Merti Sub-County. This is of great concern in that there have been persistent raids by immigrant herders leading to loss of lives, injuries, loss of property and livestock such as cattle, camel, sheep and goats, ... view
  • 12 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, what is happening in Isiolo is unprecedented. The magnitude is similar to what has been happening in Laikipia. Two weeks is a long time. We are losing lives. Part of the County is completely cut off. The entire Merti Sub- The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 12 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: County is literally under siege. I wish the Chairperson could respond to my request in the shortest time possible. Last weekend alone, we lost nine people just on the edge of Isiolo Town. view
  • 1 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, for the opportunity to contribute to the Speech made by His Excellency yesterday, in accordance with Article 132 of our Constitution. I thank His Excellency for honouring his constitutional obligation of addressing a Joint Sitting of the two Houses of Parliament. His Excellency is required to provide progress on achievement of the principles highlighted under Article 10 in our Constitution, as well as updating us on international obligations. The Speech of His Excellency mainly centred on economic progress. He compared what he had achieved over the eight years that he has been our President with what previous Governments ... view
  • 1 Dec 2021 in National Assembly: Therefore, when you look at this progress against our national values like equity, you realise that there are things that need to be corrected. In terms of energy, we have had so many households in the ASAL areas including my constituency, being connected to electricity. I am happy to report that we are using green energy in most of these areas. Actually, 70 per cent of our energy as a county is generated from green sources. That is a good thing. One thing which I expected His Excellency to focus on which I did not hear him mention is the ... view
  • 11 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the adoption of this Report by the House. I am also privileged to be a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources. We were mandated by the Speaker following a petition by Edermann Kenya Limited on pollution caused by LDK. I want to agree with Hon. Kihara that when we visited the factory in 2018, we were shocked. We could not imagine that such a factory could be allowed to operate in our country. We were told a year earlier, prior to our visit, that it was ... view
  • 13 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I support the adoption of this Sessional Paper on the National Water Policy. As a country, we are water scarce. We have a situation where at times we have torrential rains with floods causing a lot of damage and at other times, we have drought emergency like what we are going through at the moment. We find ourselves in a situation where almost 80 per cent of Kenyans are water insecure. This policy is trying to address the challenges of water provision as a basic human right to the citizens of this country. It ... view
  • 12 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would like to thank the Mover of the Motion. The prevailing drought condition is a matter of national concern. As somebody who was born and brought up in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) of Kenya, more specifically, in the arid part of this Republic, I can confirm that in my living memory, this is one of the worst droughts that we have experienced. It has been worsened by the Corona Virus pandemic. The livestock market in the north collapsed before we started experiencing drought because most consumers of our livestock products, particularly ... view
  • 12 Oct 2021 in National Assembly: as a country, after failure of two rainy seasons, we have ended up with an emergency. What this tells us, particularly those from the North, is that we have a Government which does not care. If that framework called the EDE was resourced adequately year after year from 2012 up to this year, we would not have ended up with the current drought emergency. Unfortunately, this matter seems to be a Northern Kenya affair. I do not see the leadership of this House from the Majority Party as well as the Minority Party taking interest, yet when they are interested ... view
