  • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: It is true that we must strive to work and we ought to be in this House coming up with ideas on how to help Kenyans, but on the other hand, we must also bring to the people’s attention that this pandemic is so grave, and we must also take precaution measures. view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: It is on that account that the House Business Committee recommended that we take some break, so that we only come on Tuesdays, but we shall endeavor to ensure that each and every business is transacted on Tuesday. I want to assure Kenyans and also hon. Senators that if for any reason you agree to my Motion, please, no business will be impacted negatively. We will come up with measures to ensure that we come and transact all business appearing on the Order Paper. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: That may include shortening debating period, and devising various mechanisms so that we do not have a backlog. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, this House must also be proud of the good work that it has done, reason being, for the last seven months or so, we have been able to process a record 10 Bills. We have also processed several Motions, and very contentious Motions and Bills, including the Motion on the division of revenue sharing. Therefore, we must be proud of the work that we have done. • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: I want to bring to your attention the fact that the Committees are now transacting more business as opposed to the time when we used to transact business physically. We will use those two days productively. I beg to move and ask Sen. Were to second. view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in Senate: Yes, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, Sen. Omogeni can second. view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to comment on this Statement by Sen. Were. Under a capitalistic economy, the government must always foster what we call a perfect competition economy. In a perfect competition economy, there are certain features. view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in Senate: First, companies must be price takers. That means that no single company should dictate the price. Secondly, a customer should get symmetrical information. That is to say there should have equal information so that they make the right decision. view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in Senate: It is on that basis that Kenya established the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) but we have seen it failing to live up to the expected outcomes or objectives of the law that underpins it. It is because we have certain sectors in Kenya that are completely dominated by certain companies. view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in Senate: The first one is the alcohol sector. The EABL controls about 90 per cent of the market but no remedial action is being done by the CAK. That is completely unfair because by doing that, several things happen. view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in Senate: First, the EABL is the one that dictates the price of beer in this country. Secondly, no new company can establish itself and employment cannot be created. The worst case scenario is that the EABL is owned by a foreigner. It is not even a Kenyan company because they bought out the original Kenyan shareholders. For me, it is not positive. It is something that the CAK has neglected to take remedial actions. view
