  • 13 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to speak on the Banking (Amendment) Bill. I support the Bill. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hon. Jude Njomo for bringing such a Bill at the most appropriate time. Banks in any country are like a thermometer that measures the economic welfare of a country. The collapse of three banks in a very short time is a very bad indicator for this country in terms of economic welfare. It discourages those who intend to save money and, subsequently, discourages investors. No investor would like to ... view
  • 13 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Bank is a good example in this country. It has opened many branches even outside this country. It encourages small and medium-sized enterprises. Other banks should borrow a leaf from this. Many commercial banks in this country collude when they are setting the interest rates. Commercial bank “A” and commercial bank “B” collude to set very high interest rates. We do not see the forces of demand and supply operating in the banking industry. Otherwise, the interest rates would be lower. I support the Bill. I will propose amendments when it will come to the Committee of the whole House, ... view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. It was not my intention to interrupt my friend, Hon. Waiganjo, but I rise under Standing Order No.97 to request that because of the interest that this debate has generated, time be reduced for subsequent speakers to three minutes. view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to speak to this Bill. From the outset, I take this opportunity to salute Kenyan sportsmen and women who have consistently kept the flag of Kenya flying high particularly in the 3,000 metres steeplechase, which we have won for many years. I take this opportunity to salute people like Kipchoge Keino, Jipcho, Tergat, Komen, Kosgey, Julius Korir who won the Olympics in 1984, Moses Tanui and Ezekiel Kemboi who has always won gold in the 3,000 metres steeplechase, not forgetting the You-Tube man who trained for javelin. The electronic ... view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Sports have always kept the Kenyan flag high and many times our National Anthem is sung in international fora. Economic developments like real estates have been initiated in places like Eldoret where most of the athletes come from. They have investments heavily. view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: I support the Bill and the National Assembly will stand to the task because by 2nd May, we should have complied. By complying, we shall be creating an equal playing ground for all the players. I want to discourage athletes from using drugs because we have been told that these drugs cause abnormalities in their bodies. They even hinder them from procreation. So, you can imagine a situation where we are not procreating yet we need more athletes. view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: As I conclude, I ask county governments to set up infrastructure by way of stadiums and other facilities, so that we can develop athletics in Kenya. view
  • 12 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: With that, I support. view
  • 30 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute on the Land Laws (Amendment) Bill. As I was proceeding yesterday, I mentioned that land in Kenya is very emotive. Even as this Bill attempts to realign the land laws with the Constitution and give effect to Article 68(c)(i), you will realise that Kenya has had a lot of historical injustices in matters related to land. This Bill has, therefore, come at the most appropriate time. As we all know, other than labour and capital, land is also a factor of production. Having in mind that this country is ... view
  • 30 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: land boards consist of elders and those who have grown in those regions. In my opinion, the land boards should be reinstated so that communities can have more say on issues relating to land. Hon. Speaker, as I go through the Bill, I have not seen any clause relating to community land. We need to know the role of the community in relation to community land. As I conclude, the Bill is good but it requires a few amendments so that we do not pick on a single factor of production and start deciding the minimum and maximum acreage one ... view
