Hon. Speaker, Sir, this is totally unacceptable. The report that we have got today is not conclusive. There is no in depth report. I have information that whereas they are saying that they are 5,228 persons to be compensated, that is not the correct figure. They are fewer as the Leader of the Majority has alluded that there are only four people who filed the case. I also have information that the lawyers, both local and international are pocketing a cool Kshs1 billion out of the Kshs2.6 billion. That is over 40 per cent of the total amount. This is ...

Hon. Deputy Speaker, four weeks ago, I sought a Statement from the Leader of Majority Party regarding the fate of the 5,428 Mau Mau war veterans and their awards, but up to now I have not received any Statement. The Leader of Majority Party hand indicated that he would give a report in two weeksâ time. It is now four weeks since then but I do not know what is happening. Hon. Deputy Speaker, as you have noted, this is a very emotive issue. Last Friday, I attended the burial of one of the most respected Mau Mau war veterans. ...

I am sorry, hon. Member. I withdraw. I rise to support this amendment and on the same breadth I would kindly request the Treasury that since His Excellency the President, Deputy President, this House and Senate, we all agreed to try as much as possible to devolve as much funds down there, I would kindly plead with this House that once the estimates for the main budget come, we work on the CDF Act so as to raise the 2.5 per cent to at least 5 per cent. That 2.5 per cent will go directly to our children so that ...

Hon. Speaker, Sir, I want to start by congratulating you for being elected and also the Deputy Speaker. I also want to take this opportunity to thank very sincerely the residents of Kieni for seeing it wise to elect me, so that I represent them in this Parliament. I have been trying to catch your eye but, unfortunately, that was not forthcoming. I think in this House we might change to catching your ear.

I rise to support very strongly this Motion by our good friend, Hon. Koinange. Since Independence, all the successive governments, whichever government that came to power, one of the things it talked about was healthcare. Even when we were campaigning, one of the major things that we used to talk about was health. This Eleventh Parliament should work on legislation that will make sure that we have universal healthcare for our people. Dr. Kibunguchy has pointed out that there are some very new diseases like hypertension. We also have other cases like accidents involving our boda bodas and our young ...

Many workers do not have a calling, but there is something that we share with the medical fraternity. Ours is a calling to duty. It is a calling for a Member of Parliament to work for the people. It is also a calling for doctors and nurses. It is very important that they are well remunerated. If we remunerate our medics and equip our medical institutions, we can talk about achieving the Vision 2030. All over the world, one of the basic needs that we should not even argue about is health care. If we deal with health and education ...
