28 Jul 2015 in Senate:
Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I thank Sen. Murkomen for moving this Motion and you for giving me this opportunity to contribute. In order to debate this Motion as a matter of urgent national importance, I think, we should look specifically at what President Obama said. He was appealing to all of us that there are shared values that should bring us together as a nation. That for as long as we keep talking about “them” and “us” and Opposition and Government in circumstances where we need to bring about lasting change to our country, then we are doomed forever. Over ...

28 Jul 2015 in Senate:
I know the Standing Orders. I have just used that to drive the point home. If there is anything that I must say and continue to say, it is that, in the politics of this country, we must find a way to speak together as one country in matters of values. Even on the question of corruption, it cannot be a Jubilee affair. It should be something that can bring us together so that we find a way to resolve it. How about tribalism? We cannot begin to talk about tribalism when both coalitions are sitting on the opposite sides. ...

23 Jul 2015 in Senate:
Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I am worried from the statement that came from the Chair. You reminded the hon. Senator from Tana River that this House is not a fish market. I am from Siaya. Fish markets are very honourable places. Maybe, next time you go with me to Siaya, they will remember that statement. I have to prepare some fish for you when you come to Siaya.

23 Jul 2015 in Senate:
I am grateful, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. Let me commend the fact that the Speaker, at a very short notice, allowed me to bring this Motion by approving it yesterday and allowing it to be on the Order Paper. That demonstrates the fact that this Motion is seen by the Speaker and the House generally as an important Motion to discuss at this time and place. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, by tomorrow, President Obama will have visited Africa four times, thereby breaking the record of all the other sitting Presidents of the USA by the number of visits he has ...

23 Jul 2015 in Senate:
Madam Temporary Speaker, I thank everybody who has contributed to this Motion. The only thing I regret was the sideshows. I hoped that at the end, if this debate was held in the manner that it should, one could even have taken a transcript of the HANSARD and presented it to the Government of the USA or the authorities there to show what Senate said on the occasion of the visit by the President of the USA. The views of Sen. Murungi were very valid comments about American foreign policy on this part of the world. President Obama has been ...

21 Jul 2015 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for your ruling and for not failing at every instance to express the position of your Chair and the Senate. What you have said is good enough for purposes of record. It could have been worse if events like these occurred and there was no record to show that there was concern by the Senate. It came through the question raised by the Senator for Kakamega, more importantly, by the Chair. One of the foundational principles of this Constitution is the rule of law. In fact, Article 2(2) states:- “No person may claim or ...
