6 May 2021 in Senate:
For the future of this country and in the performance of your constitutional duties, never be intimidated. If my day comes, I will accept it but I will never sell my conscience because I know of men and women like the late Seroney - one of the most brilliant lawyers - who could have lived longer as parliamentarians, but for his standing for the truth, we are now enjoying some of the privileges. Let us think of those people who sacrificed so much. In Parliament, people like quoting Martin Luther King. There is another famous French philosopher who we also ...

6 May 2021 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is just in relation to the voting that is about to take place. In accordance with Chapter Six of the Constitution, Article 73, I want to declare a conflicting interest. Although the Standing Orders and the Constitution do not quite apply, at least Article 73 would assist me on this matter. I happen to have acted against the Governor that is to be impeached in a petition before the Supreme Court. For that reason, at the time when my name will be called upon, I will abstain; on the basis of having acted against the Governor ...

6 May 2021 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I move that the debate on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 be deferred and adjourned to the next sitting of the House. Many people did not anticipate that we will come back to this business. It is already 6.00 p.m.

29 Apr 2021 in Senate:
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir! The judges normally look at people who are using judicial craft. You become crafty and try to make a word meaning what it is not. The Constitution has its own language. If you want to know what delimitation is, you do not go to the Blackstone law dictionary. That is just a tool of interpretation. The first document you go to is the Constitution. The Constitution says what delimitation involves. It also says what and how it is done when delimitation is carried out. This cloudy thing you are looking for is ...

29 Apr 2021 in Senate:
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I support this Bill, and that is what I said. However, it is always wrong to make factual misstatements. In fact, if you go and argue today that this is what the law says and you appear before the courts and argue the opposite direction, you will be put to order or you may be cited. There is a problem that we are having persistently when people think that if you have a Bill to amend the Constitution through the popular initiative, it is by the people. It is not by the ...

29 Apr 2021 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, there are conventions of this House, which you must keep. When somebody is out of order, you challenge him when he is on the Floor. That is the practise of this House. You do not wait until he goes and then you raise a point of order. Who is going to respond to his point of order? He may be wrong. I do not know whether his arithmetic is as good as Sen. Wambua’s. Maybe it is different. We should never allow a situation where I come here, somebody spoke a week ago, the person is not ...

28 Apr 2021 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am a little worried that we will take a long time on this. Instead of us taking a long time on this, I think we should be given a little time. I came looking for this document, but I was told I can only be given a copy after it is tabled. Although I was a Member of the Committee, I still felt the need of having a hard copy. This is the kind of document that cannot be read on the phone or the computer and you do justice to it. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I ...
