  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the outset, just like my colleague, the Member for Suna East, I oppose the Bill. In the same breath, I urge the Chairman to withdraw it, so that we can hold further consultation. The member for Suna East said that I am disabled. I am a person living with disability and I have ability beyond disability. Again, I did not say I will contest for the presidency in 2042, but 2032. view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: A person living with disability and not a disabled person. When you say a disabled person, then you have taken disability to be more than the person. So, you say a person with disability. view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: We have ability beyond disability. By the way, my performance in school might have been better than yours, but your performance of running in the field would have been better than mine. So, you were disabled in the classroom and I was disabled in the field. I oppose this Bill. This is an electoral process which involves Members of Parliament, Senators, governors and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs). These are the people who will be put to test. Why should we bring independent commissions, which have not settled to know their proper duties? They are not aware of the electoral ... view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: sent to the President and eventually to this House. They have forgotten a constituency called persons with disability; the 6.5 million of them. In 2017, only 1.5 million registered as voters against the potential 2.6 million because of lack of accessibility to the IEBC offices and voting centres. So, most of them did not register. Some of them are visually impaired and others are deaf. We do not have sign language interpreters in polling or registration stations. We do not have information in braille for the visually impaired. That is why instead of registering the 2.6 million potential voters with ... view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker that is healthy interruption. There is also the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC). Surely, in case of any dispute in the electoral process, we will run to some of these commissions. Now, they are the ones selecting commissioners. They are bound to have conflict of interest in case we call upon them to audit. On elections day, we have people overseeing the process and KHRC is one of them. The Law Society of Kenya is another. We should not have such commissions in the selection panel. We should retract and rethink about this Bill ... view
  • 31 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: not be there. If we have a credible selection panel in place that all Kenyans trust, especially from the political class who will be affected directly that will fine. If the political class is satisfied, I can assure you that they will also be contented with the outcome. Kenya will be peaceful before and after elections. view
  • 20 Jun 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. This is Public Petition No.43 of 2019 regarding funding of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queer and intersex - otherwise known as LGBTQI - agenda by foreign organisations in Kenya. I, the undersigned, on behalf of faith-based organisations and religious institutions, draw the attention of the House to the following: THAT, the Preamble of the Constitution acknowledges the supremacy of the Almighty and commits to nurturing and protecting the well-being of the individual, family, communities and the nation; THAT, Article 36 of the Constitution guarantees the freedom of association with an inhibiting clause that the registration of ... view

  • 20 Jun 2019 in National Assembly: A Dutch Foundation working to support social change and Taidys Foundation, an American firm that seeks to promote robust democratic processes, a key stakeholder in the LGBTQI agenda in Kenya; THAT, the European Court on Human Rights while interpreting the European Convention on Human Rights has ruled that gay marriage is not a human right noting that only 10 out of 47 European countries allow such same sex marriages; THAT, the USA Supreme Court declined to state that the same sex marriages is a right under the Constitution or international law but instead ruled that individual states may decide whether ... view
