Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is a country that has a President and a working Government, and I do not think that the Government is taking this matter lightly. That is why we would need the Committee on Agriculture to let the scientists speak to Kenyans and not the politicians. Politicians do not know how to say that the gestation period is ending at this time, and you need to do this on your ground. That is why we resort to

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I agree with the Senate Majority Leader and what my distinguished uncle, Sen. Wetangula has said that, possibly, as a matter of urgency and because of the effects of panic, we need those institutions together with the Cabinet Secretary to come to this House in a session. This is so that Kenyans can understand the actual science behind it, and not the comedy that we are hearing.

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I did not say that they are the same, but they are from a similar family of insects. The locust is what is called schistocercagregaria . That ‘ gregaria’ is how they move in swarms and the grasshopper moves solitarily, but they look similar. In fact, that justifies what I was saying. Even what I have just said here has already been misinterpreted, and that is why we misinterpreted hon. Kiunjuri and hon. Munya. I have just clarified.

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. On behalf of “unlearned friends” but highly educated, the direction sought by Sen. Omogeni is key. As Sen. Orengo has said, it is a misnomer and not a preliminary objection. Secondly, we are already in the meat of the substance of these charges.

They make a majority in the House, because we have only three Senior Counsels. I have been a Senator for two years, 151 days and four hours. In that period, this is the first time that we have gone through such a process. I would like to commend Senators as well as the lawyers who represented both sides for sitting through it. Going very quickly, because I have heard what my colleagues ...

We all know that the wife of the Deputy President is Rachel. Have you seen their certificate? Let us not be legalistic, but ethical. Sen. Cherargei said that we will regret--- Let it go down in history that the Senate of the Republic of Kenya - as you make your decision - has stood with Kenyans today and made a decision that is right.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to thank Sen. Mwaruma for raising this issue which is so important. When I was young, I would visit my grandfather and he would tell me stories about our sleepy village called Bushiangala in Ikolomani. The word ‘Ikolomani’ is said to be the corruption of the words ‘gold mine’ but we believe that the words ‘gold mine’ are actually a corruption of the word ‘Ikolomani’. Gold mining led to change of fortune for the residents of Ikolomani between the years 1935 to 1952. The Mining Act that we have today was the first ...
