  • 31 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Just last month, there was a swoop by the Provincial Administration on illicit brew in a small town in Samburu. So, people took the illicit brew to the bushes around view
  • 25 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I want to thank the Majority Leader for giving a very comprehensive Statement. I also want to appreciate the effort that was made to include our lady sisters in managing this Fund. Having said that, there are issues here which we must consider. There is always politics back in our counties and we are here because of politics. view
  • 25 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: I am sorry to say that there is misunderstanding between the Women County Representatives and Members of Parliament. So, if you have a fifty fifty sharing of these committees, I see a situation where we might reach a deadlock on who gets these funds. Where I come from, it is very bad for a man to argue with a lady unless she is your wife. I think somebody is trying to play a very clever trick to satisfy the women and at the same time putting us into some collision course. This is because we are in politics. If we ... view
  • 25 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: I have heard the Majority Leader say that the person in charge of CDF is an ex-officio . I am trying to see whether this guy can also be a voting member of this committee so that he can break the deadlock. view

  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support this Bill. I am in the Finance Committee that is dealing with this Bill. This Bill provides a good and clear framework for the establishment of futures markets in our country. Standardization in the market will help stabilize prices and work against market fragility. This will, for example, help our farmers have an edge over market risk. It will also help them buy machinery, say in Brazil, before they harvest their crops. view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: This Bill will also help our investors by cushioning them against all market risks. It is time that our country engaged in those kinds of markets. More importantly, it will put Nairobi in its rightful place as the regional hub of this part of Africa. It will also put our country in a clear and special place in the financial engineering of the world. I think we will put our country on the map as one of the countries in the frontier of the financial markets. view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, that said there are a few things that I want to mention about this Bill. As it has been written, it is a collection of the existing CMA or Securities Act and many details are not included. However, this will probably be determined later on by the regulators. view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: The other thing that we can see from this Bill is that brokers across East Africa are mentioned for the first time. That is important but there are things that must be looked into as far as this Bill is concerned. If there are conflicting roles between the three East African countries, it should be made clear that Kenyan rules take precedence for the stability of our markets here at home. view
