  • 3 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: The Member for Samburu North said we are cousins. At times we work in harmony because we are related by blood. Having an integrated plan to manage our coastal areas is a very welcome move. We are blessed by God with one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. We know that coastlines play an integral role in both human survival and development. Without the wetlands of the oceans of the world, there would be no life on earth. We have to protect them as God-given assets. We need an integrated plan on our Kenyan coast to ensure the ... view
  • 3 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: ways and conserve our environment. In the United States of America (USA), since they got their independence, there is only one armed force that is under the governors and that is the Coast Guards. It is an equivalent of an army but is under the governors to ensure that the US coastlines and ecosystems are protected. We need such a unit in this country. Those counties bordering the coast should have armed coast guards to take care of our security and make sure that our ecosystems are protected. Earlier on, I wanted to speak on the wetlands of Kenya, because ... view
  • 3 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity. It is a great opportunity that the Constitution of our country provides for Hon. Members who represent the people of Kenya across our land, opportunity to ratify any international agreements that involve our country. It is important particularly noting that we live in a globalised world where small things that are done in any corner of the world, somehow filter and affect people even in the remotest villages of our country. The ratification of this trade agreement is of paramount importance considering that Kenya is a founding member of the World ... view
  • 3 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: African region, and if you consider that Kenya will be hosting the first Ministerial Conference of the WTO in Africa. As the Leader of the Majority Party has alluded, there is something good that is coming to Kenya. We will be the first country in Africa to hold a Ministerial Conference of the WTO. We just hosted Obama; we just hosted the Pope. I want to congratulate our country because we are recognised globally. This treaty provides for efficient customs procedures, speedy and efficient documentation and transparency as goods move across the region. That is very important for this country ... view
  • 2 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, someone said here, rightly, that our Constitution is one of the most progressive Constitutions in the world. That is right, but what purpose does a progressive Constitution serve if it does not apply uniformly and equally across our land? What purpose do papers have if human rights are not anything to mention in some parts of our country, particularly where I come from? This article talks about the right to human life. Where I come from, people kill each other and walk scot free. What is the purpose of having an article on the right to ... view

  • 2 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, in principle, I support this amendment. Inclusion of a person with disability in the Board is very important, as Hon. Mwaura noted. view
  • 2 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: I have previously dealt with the Ministry responsible for education. I hope that the Ministry is now different without Mr. Kaimenyi. Anybody who has dealt with that Ministry knows that it is the most bureaucratic and corrupt Ministry in the Government. If you bring that guy here, he will introduce a lot of bureaucracy. As a Ministry, they are doing nothing in terms of building schools and giving bursaries to needy students. view
