  • 7 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, while I appreciate the Minister's answers and the initiative to fast-track and see how we can amend the CDF Act, I would like to emphasise certain things. Coming from an area that has lost about 95 per cent of its livestock production, I would like to request the Minister to address these issues as urgently as possible. I commend him for doing what he has done. The amendment to the Act needs to be fast-tracked. I would like to ask the Minister to give us a timeframe within which this will be done, so that we can ... view
  • 7 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like the Minister to respond to the issue of the timeframe within which the CDF Act will be amended. view
  • 6 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Water and Irrigation:- (a) whether she is aware that a water project designated to benefit the El-Molo community in Laisamis District in 2006 has stalled; (b) whether she could confirm that there is an increase of health abnormalities among the El-Molo as a result of the concentration of flourine and other chemicals in Lake Turkana water which is used for domestic purposes by the community; and, (c) what she is doing to complete the project and provide clean water to the El- Molo community. view
  • 6 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. While I appreciate the Minister's answer, I think she has been misinformed. In Loiyangalani, the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation (NWCPC) did not do any feasibility studies to know where they will get the water from. So, how can you lay down a 21 kilometer piping when you have no idea where you will get the water from? Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the NWCPC is totally wrong and it has never intended to finish the El-Molo project. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that high levels of calcium and floride ... view
  • 6 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I appreciate the Minister's answers and keeness of helping Kenyans to get water. We thank her very much for that. As we speak, the El- molo people drink the water directly from Lake Turkana. I do not know whether there is any other group in this country that does drink water from an extremely salty lake. I am pleading with the Minister to spare some time and visit these poor people who are decreasing in number in Loyangalani and listen to them. That way, she will understand the real issue. Could the Minister tell ... view
  • 24 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development:- (a) whether he could indicate the current level of pollution in the Nairobi Metropolitan region; (b) whether he could further indicate the cleanliness status of the Nairobi River; and, (c) what measures the Government has taken to improve the overall human and industrial waste management within the Nairobi Metropolitan Region to ensure that environmental laws are adhered to. view
  • 24 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do appreciate the Assistant Minister's elaborate answer. But it tends to deal, mostly, with Nairobi River. Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a growing City with a growing population. Major cities in the world do have cases of air pollution. Why have we never determined the level of air pollution in our cities? On top of that, what are we telling Kenyans? How dirty or clean is the air that the people of Nairobi breathe? Why have we not conducted that study? view
  • 24 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, now that the Assistant Minister has told us that they are going to do a very comprehensive report on pollution, the report had better be done quickly because eight out of 10 Nairobians are coughing. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the City Council of Nairobi is responsible for licensing the industries that contribute to the pollution of the rivers. Could the Assistant Minister give us the number of industries that have been warned, fined or whose licences have been revoked as a result of polluting the Nairobi River? view
  • 23 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to ask the Minister if he could consider areas in northern Kenya where we have no roads and bicycles. Could he consider camels as a mode of transportation in order for the medicines to be taken to different places? view
  • 23 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Assistant Minister substantiate how many blocks of oil are currently being explored for oil in the country today? He should also give us the names of the blocks and the contractors, who have taken up that exploration in all those blocks. view
