  • 10 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I rise to oppose the Motion. I wish to oppose this Motion for a very simple reason, that the leadership of this House or the political parties that are represented in this House are pretending that they cannot see that we have Members whose conduct has depicted this House in very bad light before the public and among ourselves. When they bring these names, they then read the Standing Orders to tell us that we cannot reject the proposed list. We are here asking them to withdraw the list because we ... view
  • 10 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: I, am therefore, urging the leadership of the parties that have presented these names to withdraw them and bring other names. Do a bit of consultation so that as a House we can have Members that we feel are the right people to lead this House. On the same breath hon. Speaker, I take this opportunity on my own behalf and that of the people of Lari and my family to condole with the family of our colleague, the late hon. George Muchai, the bodyguards and the driver who were assassinated. At this stage, I also wish to say that ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to support this particular Bill. I will start by congratulating the Member for Nyandarua, hon. Wanjiku for her passion and even ability to pick out issues that affect Members of our society. I would like to say that we, the able bodied members of our society, sometimes take a lot of things for granted. There are issues that we just assume. People with disability have got a lot of disadvantages, as my colleague has just said. They are not able to access many facilities and buildings even within Nairobi. What we ... view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support this Motion. First of all, I would like to thank Hon. Gitari for bringing this Motion in time. I would like to say that hon. Members of this august House are aware that most of the issues and problems we face from our constituents are related to diseases and hospital bills. Some of them are, indeed, related to the diseases we are talking about, cancer and renal problems because they are normally diagnosed very late. When you go down to our constituencies, these diseases are considered to be--- When one ... view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: By the time people reach the counties for treatment, they will have received treatment in other hospitals which are within the constituencies. The other thing which I want to talk about is distance. For example, Lari Constituency, where I come from, has about 440 square kilometers. It is, of course, not very big compared to other constituencies. You will realize that you do not have a single hospital within the constituency. I would wish to say that we have only one health facility that gets drugs to supply to about 12 dispensaries. Even other diseases become a problem to manage ... view

I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT, aware that the road network in the country currently stands at approximately 160,886 kilometres out of which only approximately 11,189 kilometres are paved; noting that the extent of unclassified and urban roads remains unknown, with most such roads in such bad condition; aware that good infrastructure facilitates trade, economic development and improvement in quality of life; this House urges the Government through the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to upgrade a minimum of 20 and a ... view
