  • 20 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I want to confirm to the Hon. Member that we take our work seriously. That is why we have sub-divided our team into sub- committees so as to attend to some of the questions much more promptly. I want to confirm to the Member that the issue of operationalisation of the gazetted administrative units is a major issue that we are discussing with the parent ministry and soon, people will start seeing changes. view

  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: I just wanted to confirm if the system is down. I am struggling to get the Order Paper and I am not able. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I hope the four minutes will be enough. I want to support the Motion by my brother, Dr. Mutunga. It is very timely. It is coming at a time when all our farmers are crying. All the people who depend on farming in this country are having no coin in their pockets. When you trace the history of this country, you realise that those days when we had focused on agriculture, when Kenya was known for its export of agricultural products, Kenya was at peace and Kenyans were all having something to enjoy. But today, ... view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, they walk in with machines, buy rice and nobody is bothered to know whether the machines are calibrated or not. A 100-kilogramme bag of rice is bought as if it is a 60-kilogramme bag of rice despite the low prices the farmers are offered by the brokers. I know I do not have time. I wish I had time to talk more on this, but I hope our Government will go back to the days when we focused on agriculture. That is what Kenya is known for. We are trying to venture into industries where we do ... view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: knew best. We have lost in what could have helped this country. It is high time we got back to agriculture. view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: The Member for Mwea is around. Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me a chance to contribute to this particular Report. This is a very important Report. The Commission we are talking about is very important. I happen to have interacted with the past two commissions in my past assignment in the American Embassy. This is one Commission that we need to look at. We not only need to look at this Commission, but the Committee itself should be seen to promote cohesion in this Parliament. Among the people who are proposed to this Commission is Mr. Sam Kona who ... view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: We must not just talk about cohesion. There are many aspects of cohesion. There are many aspects that bring conflicts in this country. We can only hope and expect that once this particular Commission is put in place, it will go deeper and look at some of the areas that this country has been looking at. In many ways, this country spends a lot of money in resolving issues that could be resolved in a software manner and not a hardware manner. If this Commission could be active enough to ensure that people live within the law and expectations and ... view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: If this Commission, and I believe we have expertise in it, does its work well, this country will save a lot of resources. We are talking about conflict in Samburu, where my Committee is now focusing on Kitui and other areas. These are conflicts that are caused by scarcity of water, leadership and politics. They have just witnessed some contributors who swayed them to that direction which I do not want to go to. If this Commission could be on the lookout and execute its mandate, we could start to hear of people who are locked up because of being ... view
  • 13 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: Since we have now brought in people like Mr. Samuel Kona, who has been working on these issues for quite some time, it is my hope we will see a difference in the Commission. We will be talking about a Commission that will be out there, building a network throughout the country that can inform it to execute its mandate. As I talk about national cohesion, I must bring to the attention of this Parliament that we have people out there who have volunteered to bring peace to this country in the name of peace committees yet they have never ... view
