  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I support what you have said. I appreciate the wisdom in your words. Kamiti Anmer is an area in my constituency. It is no longer a forest as people have occupied it. It is over 400 acres and people have built permanent houses in that area. The squatters have settled there. The Forestry Department has been adamant about de-gazetting the forest. I, therefore, support what you are saying; that, we should follow every procedure of the law. If we skip one step, the Forestry Department will go ahead and frustrate the effort towards de-gazetting this forest. ... view

  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I wanted to support what Hon. Gikaria said about ratifying treaties. In this particular one, it was like we have only two options of either accepting it or rejecting it. We have no legal situation where we can do any adjustment to the treaty yet today most of the business that the Government does relies on treaties that they sign with other countries. We know that when the colonialists came to the country with chips, they signed treaties that affected our country until we had to go and fight. Through these treaties we are signing, we are giving ... view
  • 23 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to support this Report by the Departmental Committee on Lands. First, I would like to thank them for how they have handled this case. I remember when it came to this House and was forwarded to the Committee. They took their work very seriously. I even remember that I joined them when they went to collect views from the public in Kamiti Anmer. Kamiti Anmer is in my constituency. This is a piece of land that has really caused headaches for the residents of Kiambu for a long time. Before this land was given ... view
  • 23 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Therefore, I would like to support this Report and urge other Members to support it because it will solve a serious problem that has been going on in Kamiti, Kiambu County. Squatters have already built houses on the pieces of land that were allocated to them. They have sunk boreholes and established a cemetery. The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee of my constituency has built a school from class one to eight. How can we then say that this is a forest? How can we say that it does not belong to the people of Kiambu? I would ... view

  • 2 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. I rise to support the amendment as proposed by the Chair of the Committee. I do this noting that this body is being selected from a wide selection of our country. It is not targeting any area of professionalism or geographical area. It is a well-represented area. That is why when we were discussing the bill on shipping, the Coast people felt that shipping is only about them while it is something affecting every part of the county. That is why I say in this area, the Board is well represented. The selection is ... view
  • 30 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. This is a very important Bill on Betting and Gaming. If you look at what is going on in the country, betting has become very serious. People have become addicted to gaming and betting. We should not take this lightly. I support what the Chair of the Committee has said, that this Bill should be looked into a fresh. It should be addressed as a whole so that we can ensure we capture all the areas. It does not sound well when he says he cannot remember anything. He needs to remember because he ... view
