  • 15 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you Madam Temporary Speaker. I thank the Mover for coming up with this very important Motion on devolution of the Office of the Ombudsman. I rise to support this Motion because two years ago I was once assisted by the Office of the Ombudsman. As a lawyer, I would have quickly rushed to any court of law when I felt that I was unfairly treated by the administration. It was a case where I was unfairly treated by the Rural Electrification Authority (REA). I weighed the options that I had. I had the option of going to court or ... view
  • 10 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you Madam Temporary Speaker. I beg to move that the debate on the Motion be now adjourned to the next sitting. This is a very interesting Bill that needs a lot of time and attention. If we do that, we will give this Bill the maximum time that is required. It is an important Bill to all of us and this House needs to address itself to it properly. view
  • 9 May 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is out of order for him to try and say that he should have extended the handshake and choose who to shake hands with. I think the President was in order to decide what business he had and how to handle it. He is out of order. view
  • 9 May 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for allowing me to contribute to this Address by the President. I was impressed by the President taking time to update us on what is happening in our nation. Particularly, he talked about the implementation of the Constitution. This is so dear to me because of the history we have had in this country. It was only upon a new Constitution that some of us started feeling the Kenyanness in us. The President appreciated this Parliament. He said it has played its role in enacting enabling legislation. We appreciate that. However, when it ... view

  • 27 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we discussed but I am disappointed that this has taken almost a whole month to get the report. We had agreed that it is a matter that needs an urgent response and he has promised to give a report by Thursday. view

  • 21 Mar 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I also join my colleagues in welcoming Medina Boys High School to the Senate. I am sure that after listening to the debate on the National Flag, Emblems and Names (Amendment) Bill, they will leave this Senate feeling patriotic and take the message home. Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to support this very important Bill on flags and emblems. I thank the hon. Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. for coming up with this patriotic Bill. This Bill brings a sense of nationalism, patriotism and belonging. view
  • 21 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, this Bill could not have come at a better time. It is good that it has come at this particular time when we are speaking about reconciling as a country and going back to the feeling of being Kenyan by taking advantage of what we saw on the 9th March, 2018 between our two leaders; ‘the people’s president’ and the President of the Republic of Kenya. This is a Bill that sets the tone for this sort of reconciliation that we about to undertake as a country. At one point, there was a saying that was ... view
  • 21 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I rise to second that amendment. It definitely goes down to put what we have said in this Senate. It affirms the spirit of this Senate. Definitely, that amendment will go a long way to state how serious we are when it comes to our business. If we could adopt that, it would set the tone that we want in this Senate. If we take it back to the Committee to discuss and reopen the matter, we might not achieve our purpose. I second because this Senate is not a rubber-stamping body. This Senate is supposed ... view
