  • 5 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, they jailed Jomo Kenyatta. They jailed Nelson Mandela. I am reluctant but my conscience pushes me to say that even under 20 and newlywed lady, former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was put at the Kamiti Maximum Prison. In the 21st Century, in 2013, 23 seek to tell the wazungus that when Kenyatta said: “ Hatutalamba matako ya wazungu,” he was not wrong. view
  • 5 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: When we rise to speak this evening, we must ask ourselves whether at over 60 years of age, Jomo Kenyatta was subjected to colonial prison. Nelson Mandela whom we celebrate as an icon of African pride was jailed in Robben Island and subjected to hard labour. Whatever happened to individuals, this time I am talking about heads of state and heads of government. I think it will be very wrong--- view
  • 5 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: I beseech my colleagues to rise to the occasion; seize the moment to humiliate neocolonialists and call to the cesspool of history the brouhaha and shame of European domination. With those remarks, I beg to second. view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I rise to support this report by the Committee. It is good to appreciate that good strides have been made in all the areas. As has been posed, the face of Kenya is quite a rhetorical question which may not beg immediate answer. However, it is also good to be sensitive and appreciate that those concerns are important and legitimate. We are here representing constituencies which are listening. So, we should not be jittery, itchy or worrying that the Members are rising to raise the concerns. Primarily, your constituency that produces you is what matters. view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: The TSC, like other constitutional Commissions, for example, the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Public Service Commission and the Police Service view
  • 17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I rise to support the Motion. Hon. Speaker, very many of the laws that were passed as the last Parliament was coming to sunset, were meant to comply with the implementation of the Constitution. This was, indeed, one of them. The need to overhaul operations of State corporations in the agriculture sector need not be gainsaid. It is important to improve their governance and ensure that the myriad problems that people experience, particularly the farmers, are resolved through a legislation that will bring synergy. Therefore, the request by the Committee and even the presentation by the ... view
  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker, Sir. I rise to pay tribute to Chelagat Mutai and in her death, we have a few lessons that we can celebrate. First is that, indeed, women can achieve without any tokenism, that at age 24 in very difficult circumstances and in a very untraditional way, she managed to become a Member of Parliament. That says strongly that women should have the courage and that they should seek empowerment through individual efforts. That is a good example. Secondly, we need to celebrate the living as they come. I would like to take this opportunity to particularly ... view
  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, I think the question at hand is very critical. It stems from the fact that people do not appreciate what they are supposed to do. We have the Transition Authority (TA) which has its mandate. It has indicated what is supposed to be accomplished in the next three years, but we want to achieve everything in the first year. view
  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: We are now doing a propaganda campaign that the National Government and the National Assembly are frustrating devolution and yet, we have given 34.6 per cent of the revenue. That is more than double of what is deserved. view
  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: We urge the Controller of Budget not to release monies that are misdirected. If the county assemblies are not satisfied – these are elected hon. Members of the County Assemblies--- We have counties without cabinets and governors are re-submitting the same names because it is like they are dying to have their relatives and their friends nominated. That is nepotism and favoritism. Therefore, this House urges, and I am personally giving an opinion that the Controller of Budget should not release money to build a Kshs1 billion residence and buy 10 or 15 vehicles. That is the case and yet, ... view
