This amendment fast tracks the operation of this Bill. As soon as it is assented to and gazetted, it will take effect immediately.

Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, in modern legislative practice, we do not put that. Assent is the signature of His Excellency the President. However, you can postpone commencement of an Act and everything else, if you do not specify how it will happen. For example, if the Senate passes this Bill by May, the Act should be operationalised in the manner it is amended.

Hon. Deputy Speaker, we are at the tail-end of the parliamentary term. Many Members would want to speak to their constituents, especially those who are here and did nothing so that by speaking on the Floor of the House, they may be considered by their electorate. However, we can still be serious and do what we came here to do.
