  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development:- (a) why the China Road and Bridge Corporation has refused to honour the agreement between it and the Kenya Building, Construction, Timber, Furniture and Allied Industries Employees' Union in respect of employees working on the Stem- Njoro junction highway under construction; and, (b) what action he is taking to ensure that the employer honours that agreement. view
  • 12 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Assistant Minister for that answer. My concern is that there have been several work stoppages at the site of this construction. The issue of contention is the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Could the Assistant Minister, therefore, institute mechanisms for dispute resolution based on the information that he has brought to this House today? There must be a problem somewhere. The employees and the employer do not seem to agree on an appropriate wage. So, could he invoke the dispute resolution mechanisms and send labour officers to the ground to resolve this 3868 ... view

  • 11 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Local Government:- (a) why the Municipal Council of Nakuru (MCN) allowed Nakuru Blankets Estate to construct a stonefence between the estate and Teachers Estate blocking off all access roads to to Teachers Estate from the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway; and, (b) if he could order the demolition of the illegal barrier to enable residents access the highway with ease. view
  • 11 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the answer the Assistant Minister has given is very unsatisfactory. This wall exists! I do not know which wall he is referring to. Mr. Speaker, Sir, when asking this Question, I assumed that the Assistant Minister would take his time to find out whether this wall exists or not. I know it exists. Because the wall exists and they have acknowledged that it used to exist, could he, therefore, order its demolition right away, or give us the mandate to demolish that wall immediately? view
  • 11 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Assistant Minister is misleading this House. At the moment, there is no access road. There is a stone wall between the estate and the Nakuru Teachers Estate. It has blocked all access roads to the teachers' estate from the main road. So, we request the Assistant Minister to order the demolition of the wall that blocks the access road which connects Nakuru Blankets Estate to Nakuru Teachers Estate so that the road can be accessed from the September 11, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 3785 Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. At the moment, residents of the Nakuru Teachers Estate are using ... view
  • 28 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Co-operative Development and August 28, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 3473 Marketing:- (a) why the Reli SACCO Society Limited has failed to pay Mr. Moses K. Alukutsa his terminal benefits despite his having been acquitted by the Chief Magistrate's Court at Nakuru; and, (b) what action is being taken against the society for failing to honour such an obligation. view
  • 28 Aug 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to thank the Assistant Minister for that answer. However, why did it take over two years for this employee to be paid the first tranche of his terminal benefits? Are there any mechanisms in place to compensate for the delay the Ministry has caused to this employee? The family was suffering all this time as the Ministry dragged on with the officer's terminal benefits. view
