  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise under Standing Order No.109. Considering the debate, contributions from Members and the time that we have, I request that you call the Mover of the Motion to reply. view
  • 30 Dec 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I speak to two things on matters impeachment. One, it will be important for this honorable House to follow on its own recommendations where it has been made in passing impeachment. There is need to amend Standing Order no. 82 that gives only 10 days to the Committee. For any Committee to do a more serious work in terms of reporting, there will be need to do that. Two, matters impeachment of a governor are not gender matters. We get completely disappointed when they are looked at in the eyes of gender. We are looking ... view

  • 20 Dec 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion. Initially, the Senate Majority Leader had put it that the Motion was open for the Senate to decide. However, the matter before hand has nothing to do with gender. It is purely a matter of whether the Senate will concur or disagree with the decision that was reached by Meru County Assembly. It is not in order for Sen. Orwoba to suggest that the Committee will be biased because it is made up of more male Senators than female. • 23 Nov 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity. I rise to support the Statement by Sen. Cherarkey on the issue of importation of maize. view
  • 23 Nov 2022 in Senate: I think the Cabinet Secretary for Trade Investment and Industry has been misled by cartels who have been in existence for a while in this country that farmers in maize producing counties are hoarding maize at the expense of Kenyans suffering from hunger. The farmers are not hoarding maize. In fact, we are in harvesting season. As the maize is being harvested, it is being sold to traders who are distributing across the country. view
  • 23 Nov 2022 in Senate: As we speak there are traders from Kitui, Isiolo, Marsabit and Samburu buying maize to take to the famine-stricken counties. The importation of maize that is sanctioned during the harvest season is meant to impoverish the farmers who have already suffered major losses. The Cabinet Secretary must be reminded that the situation we are facing, of low productivity, is as a result of bad politics in the agriculture sector. view
  • 23 Nov 2022 in Senate: As we may recall, the farmers in this country were not given any subsidized fertilizer to enable them produce food at an affordable cost. It cannot therefore be expected that the farmers are going to sell their produce at a lower price when the cost of production is very high. view
  • 23 Nov 2022 in Senate: It is unfortunate that some Statements from the Cabinet Secretary are likely to incite the farmers against other citizens of this country. That importation must be stopped or deferred until the maize in the country is mopped up. I do not understand the rationale of maize importation. I have checked the prices globally. Even the GMO maize will land in Mombasa at a cost of Kshs5200 for a 90kg bag of maize. If you add the logistical view
