  • 10 May 2022 in Senate: President the responsibility of appointing the chairperson of this council. Maybe when you go to that chairperson’s home, he or she will not even know how to manage waste. In summary, it behooves us instead of coming up with legislations day-in-day out, to ensure that we live in an environment that is clean; an environment which respects itself. Madam Deputy Speaker, hypothetically, if we are to pass this legislation and have not even dealt with the issue of dumping in this country, how are we going to solve our problems? Today, if the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) would listen or ... view

  • 10 May 2022 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, as I finalise, we have to begin by cleaning the environments. Let us start recycling all the waste in our homes and then slowly by slowly, as legislators, work with the county assemblies to ensure that when they are passing their budget, there is a clearly known dumpsite. Instead of increasing politics in that dumpsite--- Ask Sen. Mwaura here and he could have a very good idea of making money and creating employment from Dandora Dumpsite. However, the moment he will set his foot there, a million people will come up in arms and ask him what ... view
  • 7 Apr 2022 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to second the motion of adjournment. I too would like to share the same sentiments as my leader in terms of issues of politics. Politics comes and go. We are given an opportunity to serve this country. As we adjourn, it is imperative that as leaders we lead by example. It is important that we allow civility and respect to be the order of the day. Kenyans at this time when it is very difficult for them to put food on the table, the worst they can tolerate is us bickering and calling each other ... view
  • 7 Apr 2022 in Senate: It is time we focused on issue based politics. I encourage the youth that during this time of nomination, let them nominate people based on the issues they stand for. It is about time that our politics become of age. When people seek to be given the mandate to lead, they should articulate clearly how they are going to change the life of so many Kenyans who are suffering. Right now with the recent crisis we had with fuel, a lot of people slept angry especially those who live in far flung areas like Turkana where we were recently with ... view

  • 7 Apr 2022 in Senate: It is something that saddens me, knowing the number of hours and candle light that we keep burning, so that we can send more money to counties. I encourage county governments, even if some of you have finished your term as this is your second term, as others are seeking reelection, I think putting our people first is more important. When we are out on this recess, I hope that the distinguished Senators will get an opportunity to be able to meet with their constituents and for the first time allow them how they want to be led. One of ... view
  • 6 Apr 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I rise to support the proposed consideration of the amendments being forwarded from the National Assembly on the Mental Health Bill. Before even moving further and commenting on the Bill, let me start by congratulating Sen. Kasanga. When she first brought up the issue of this Bill, it was among the Bills that I strongly felt that should be assented to so that we can actually also treat our brothers and sisters who suffer from mental health. It cuts across all sectors. I remember saying that even Members of Parliament go through some form ... view

  • 6 Apr 2022 in Senate: health. I know it also talks about having medical practitioners trained fully on mental health. However, I think a time will come when we will need to designate at least 47 hospitals in this country, one per county that deals purely with mental health. With the cost of living going so high, a lot of people are committing suicide; that is a form of mental health disorder. With the fuel prices now hitting the roof, with the cost of everything across this country going up, a lot of Kenyans are going through tough mental health challenges. Therefore, it is important. ... view
