9 May 2018 in Senate:
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The Chairperson of the Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources has got other several statements which have been pending for quite some time. Could he get the answers to those statements so that we dispense them off?

8 May 2018 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Before I make my contribution on this matter, I would like to welcome you and my colleagues back. I hope that this session will support devolution. I would like to make several comments on this Petition. I am very impressed by the action taken by the citizens of West Pokot. I hope that with the Public Participation Bill that is coming and the spirit of public participation, other counties will follow suit. As I stand here, I have received a lot of pictures from my own county - Narok County - where citizens are complaining ...

8 May 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me an opportunity to comment on the speech by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya. From the outset, I want to congratulate the President for recognising the late Kenneth Matiba for having given his life for patriotism. This is something that I hope that this country and particularly the President’s administration will go out and look for all the people who go through pain and give a lot for the sake of this country called Kenya. I know that there are people who fought for this country that were ...

8 May 2018 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, that notwithstanding, I want to move to the contents of the President’s speech. I want to talk about his comment on the achievements of the Eleventh Parliament. I congratulate him for having mentioned that the Eleventh Parliament was tasked to implement the new constitutional dispensation. The question is whether the Eleventh Parliament fully implemented the Constitution. I know we still have challenges and I hope that this Senate will take things seriously in terms of ensuring that we fight for devolution. During the transitioning period, many counties did not declare all their assets and liabilities. I ...

28 Mar 2018 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity to add my voice to this great act of patriotism by His Excellency President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. The great act of leadership is what happens after your absence. If everything you have done and worked for all your life dies with you, then you become a failure. Further, leadership is measured by what happens when you die. It is not about your investments in buildings or your investment in divisive politics, but what people will remember you with. As I stand here to represent the ...

22 Mar 2018 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I too would like to extend a warm welcome to the teachers and students from Meru County. I have a challenge for them that when I was growing up, I really wanted to be in this House. Back then, it was just the National Assembly. I want you to take cue from that, join the debate club and take us as mentors. I also urge you to really use us because our role here in the Senate is to oversight. You can also take advantage and write to us in case you come across ...

Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Bill. I have gone through it and one of the questions that came to mind is; what does the flag The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate.

21 Mar 2018 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I have had an opportunity to peruse the Report which was Tabled by the Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Budget, and I am perplexed. It seems that ageism is pervasive and entrenched in our society. When I look at it, I am shocked. A young man with a promising future, scored 78 and then there is a remark that he does not have ten years’ experience. This really shocks me because I listened to my dear friend and able Senator who seconded ...

21 Mar 2018 in Senate:
Thank you for that clarification, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I would like to urge the Committee to look at this Report again. I listened carefully to what Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. said. He said that none of them shared the results on how they graded the candidates. If that is the truth, then the person who should be recommended to represent us in the SRC is none other than Sen. Kipkemboi Melly. Last year or two years ago, someone who is close to me scored the highest marks in an interview, but just because he came from somewhere else --- ...
