  • 29 Aug 2023 in Senate: The Constitution expects that as soon as an election is conducted, whoever takes the mantle leads the country to prosperity, peace, and unity. It anticipates a situation where we will work together as a nation for the success of the people of Kenya who elect us and who are sovereign. The new Constitution anticipates the elected leaders to be servants of the people. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I therefore rise to support this initiative so that there may be dialogue. We agreed that after the Constitution of Kenya 2010--- view
  • 29 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Dialogue is needed so that we can fill the gaps. As you have seen from the proposals of the two sides, the Majority and the Minority, there are gaps that were left out in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and after 13 years, it is time for us to fill these gaps so that we can have a document which serves and unites the people of Kenya, and see the country grow into prosperity. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am aware of the debates that have been taking place in funerals, television shows, and within the ... view
  • 8 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I would like to make a comment on the Statement requested by Sen. Okenyuri on the youth week. The issue of youth, which is being celebrated all over the world, is very critical. view
  • 8 Aug 2023 in Senate: Apologies, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I will comment on the Statement made by Sen. Ogola on teen pregnancies. This is a sensitive issue in the country. Cases of teen pregnancies have risen in counties and families are attempting to resolve the matter other than letting it go to court or leaving it to the police to handle such cases. In many situations, these cases amount to abuse of the people under the age of 18. The law is very serious about protecting them. The Statement also outlines policies for this House to strengthen the current law to make sure there is ... view
  • 8 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The role of the police and children’s officers has been diluted and the community has a responsibility to protect young children. In the event teenage pregnancies happen, then these children should be rehabilitated and go back to school so that they may have a chance in life. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 26 Jul 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. First of all, apologies for not being in the House yesterday. I was pursuing an anticipatory bail on my behalf and on behalf of others in the High Court, and I was successful in the evening. Now, I have orders of the court that I can move freely and come and participate in the Senate. On the Statement that I made on that particular day on the Motion, immediately after, I met the two area Senators. I got information from Sen. Cheruiyot that the trouble in Sondu was a stolen motorbike. It has been ... view
  • 18 Jul 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. Article One of the Constitution talks of sovereignty of the people and that under Article Two of the Constitution, this power of the people is donated to Parliament, to the Executive and also the Judiciary in equal measure. Parliament can debate matters relating to people like this one. Article 37, which has just been quoted here, allows peaceful demonstration. In Kenya, we have been having peaceful demonstrations and I will give two examples. The day Raila Odinga was sworn-in as the people's president, the police did not interfere. No single person was killed and even ... view

  • 18 Jul 2023 in Senate: Majority in the National Assembly and also my very good friend, hon. Moses Kuria, who was in Parliament with me for two terms; they have issued tweets and statements. Unfortunately, these statements amount to preparation of committing genocide in this country. Already what is happening in Sondu is politically instigated. It is not a border problem. It has been described as a border problem by Hon. (Prof.) Kindiki, but it is not a border problem. It is a political problem and we should treat it as such. I know the Senator for--- view
