  • 17 Oct 2023 in Senate: divergent view, you wanted that so that you could understand exactly where people were coming from. I congratulate the Committee and thank them for doing a very good and thorough public participation that other Committees can learn from. It was very impressive. Eldoret is a place that we have all waited to see become a city. We tried as much as possible to bring this forward. When I was the Senator for Uasin Gishu, we tried when the case for Nakuru was on. There are quite a number of things that the Committees then said that we needed to clear ... view
  • 17 Oct 2023 in Senate: Yes, industrialisation started in Eldoret way back. We had the Rift Valley Textiles Company (Rivatex) and the Raymonds that used to export blankets, bedsheets and curtains. We know that they are revived now. Of course, Raymonds was rebranded as Ken Knit. Rivatex is back on its feet and running. A good number of companies have come to process food products. We have people who are processing and exporting vegetables. We export flowers, vegetables and fruits such as avocados, and passions. It is true that quite a bit is not being exported through the international airport in Eldoret because of that ... view
  • 17 Oct 2023 in Senate: So, it is not only going to be a facility for our athletic champions, but also all other sports, including football. They have a very nice football pitch in the same place. We know that very soon residents of Uasin Gishu will be competing with AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. We are yet to know the name we will call ours, but it will be there. On the other hand, we also have realized that youth from other corners of the country are now training for athletics, which is very good. Athletic tourism is the best thing. We have seen ... view

  • 11 Oct 2023 in Senate: From the onset, I want to say I support the Digital Health Bill. I support it because I think it is a Bill whose time had even come and passed. We should have done this long time ago. There are so many countries that are benefiting from telemedicine currently and we are very far from it. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I support specifically the issues of telemedicine electronic health records. I know I had worries and I wanted to look at what has been used to protect personal data. It is very clear from this Bill that the only people who ... view
  • 11 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir for the opportunity. I thank the Cabinet Secretary for re-energizing the sector. We believe he will do well if he implements what he has presented before us today. As I seek clarification on one statement he made, I congratulate Kelvin Kiptum, the new world marathon record breaker. The Cabinet Secretary already awarded him the Kshs5 million. We thank him for that. It has re-energised the whole sector. He is actually from the village I was born. I wish to seek clarification. When you pay a world record breaker Kshs5 million, does he still get ... view
  • 11 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you Madam Temporary Speaker for giving me the opportunity to join my colleagues in strongly supporting the Social Health Insurance Bill. Because of time, I will go straight to Part V: The Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund. When this Bill is passed and assented to, this is going to be the biggest benefit as far as I can see. Some people have suffered from chronic diseases like kidney diseases. People who have had transplants and have to have lifelong treatments have suffered. We know families that sometimes skip medication. It has been a disaster. So, this is the ... view

  • 11 Oct 2023 in Senate: a lack of support when they had these kinds of illnesses. This is going to be a thing of the past. We look forward to this Bill being assented to. I support. view
