  • 28 Sep 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to support the Statement brought to this House by Sen. Mwaruma. I will start by expressing my sympathy to the teachers of Kenya for the situation they have been put in. It is sad that we are now talking of reviewing the curriculum and make it more expensive for the teachers, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Madam Deputy Speaker, the Teachers Professional Development (TPD) is ill intentioned. It is sad to force teachers to sponsor themselves on the TPD, yet they are already suffering from lack of salary increment. I ... view

  • 28 Sep 2021 in Senate: should a teacher from Mandera or Turkana be forced to come to Mt. Kenya University, so as to be trained? Why should the teachers be forced to fund their training? Why is Ministry of Education dictating to teachers what they should do? Education and training needs to be on a willing basis. Teachers are not supposed to be forced to go on training. I call upon the TSC, which has eroded the beauty of education in this country, to rethink their decision. I cannot advise anyone to go into that teaching profession now. Secondly, why is the TPD being restricted ... view

  • 16 Sep 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to support the Petition. I want to congratulate the petitioner for bringing this Petition before this House. The Petition is relevant and timely because water is a basic need. Even here where we are seated in the Senate, we have water before us. That shows how important water is in our lives and for our daily needs. When the petitioners says they lack access to clean and safer water, it is very true. Out of the 50 million Kenyans, between 17 million to 19 million people have no access to ... view
  • 16 Sep 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I beg to lay the following Paper on the Table of the Senate today, 16th September, 2021. The Report of the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare on the Persons with Disabilities Amendment Bill (Senate Bills No.29 of 2021). view
  • 16 Sep 2021 in Senate: I wish to echo the sentiments of Sen. (Eng.) Mahamud. This is a different Statement from the one that Sen. Kinyua brought. The Committee members are handing the issues as they come. If they have already handled the issue in Laikipia and another Statement has been brought today, let them also arrange and deal with it accordingly. view
  • 16 Sep 2021 in Senate: Let us not point fingers, dismantle each other or wash dirty linen in public. People are listening to us and we know how we handle our issues according to the Standing Orders. view
  • 16 Sep 2021 in Senate: I know that we are politicians who can talk for our people. It can help to solve the issues in the Committees if we tame ourselves to the point where we can handle our issues in a more respectful way. view
  • 8 Sep 2021 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to support this Petition that has been brought to this House by Mr. Tartisio Ireri Kawe. I support it because the Inua Jamii Programme was well thought out, but its implementation was poor. view
