• 22 Oct 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I wish to support this important Motion brought by Sen. Nyamunga on the engagement of community health workers by county governments. This is a very important state forward as far as achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). We cannot work towards UHC while ignoring primary healthcare. Charity begins right at the bottom. It is my view that this is the way to go. This is because many counties in this country are building grand hospitals and referral hospitals, but they are missing the point. I wish to point out that the Committee on Health had visited Machakos County, which is one of the pilot counties and made observations on the same issues that have been raised by Sen. Dullo. However, we will undertake to look at the issues that she has raised together with what we had tabled before this House on 7th August, 2019 and get a comprehensive report from the Cabinet Secretary responsible for the Ministry of Health.
