Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Ordinarily, you say pronouncements that are extremely divisive in this country by the position you hold, where you sit. I can get away because I am not holding any big position. But the position you hold, please use it to unite this country, the same way if my own party does something bad, I tell them off. Please use it to unite this country. view

  • 29 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I want to thank hon. Shimbwa for donating a minute. I want to support the Motion and say that we have every reason to liberalize air fares and the main reason is the incident that happened to hon. Wetangula. It is not only him, it has happened to some of us in the past and we are seeing that it is a pattern and a trend that is targeting the Opposition. I want to tell Kenya Airways “shame on you!” Some of us who are frequent flyers have even added more value than even some ... view
  • 29 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. That is true. I just want to thank the Mover for bringing this Motion. I want to indicate that this is a very big problem because from what the speaker is saying, these are cases of trafficking in persons. I brought a Bill that was passed by this House, I think, last year; Counter Trafficking in Persons Act. One of the things that is evident is that Kenya is a source country, it is a transit country and a destination country for trafficking and one of the things that is happening with Kenya as ... view
  • 29 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: need to take very urgent action. I have seen one case of a woman called Rose from Homa Bay County, who was also murdered. Most of them come back dead. Some of them will never come back and we will never know because they are killed and not documented. So, I would want to ask the Mover to go a step further and take this action with the Budget and Appropriations Committee, so that they can give money to this advisory committee for it to take action to protect our girls. view
  • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I support the proposed amendment. What the hon. Member has indicated in relation to the victim’s cultural values and beliefs is indeed, true. I would want to presume because we sat with the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, and because of time we may have missed out that. I do not know if it would be in order for the Chair to move a further amendment or I could do it; that the victim’s cultural values and beliefs in line with the Constitution are respected. As it is, I was actually making reference to Clause 4 ... view

  • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, Chairlady. I think that was an oversight because in case of mass victimization where you have those who are victims but can speak, they can give their names. But the ones who cannot speak then we can identify them through their age and other criteria that we provided in the Bill. Therefore, I support. view
  • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I have been listening to the comments by hon. Members. I know the issues by the Member for Nakuru are very valid because we do not want to gag the media. But having looked at this carefully in Sub- clause 2, it says that the victim would request for confidentially and so it is not a blanket bar. So, the media can report but where the victim says: “I do not want to be covered”, then you do not need to cover. However, it is also a call for our media to be considerate; that when you have ... view
