Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo Mabona

Millie first thought about becoming Mbita MP at age 13. The graduate of University of Nairobi School of Law has worked as a lawyer and women and children rights activist. The CRADLE is one of the MP’s dream come true. She founded the organization that promotes the rights of children since 1997. Millie has received the YWCA Democracy Award and the Eve woman of the year for human rights and gender. Her political tipping point came when she served as a delegate at the Bomas of Kenya, during the constitutional drafting process. • 16 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Going by the mood of the House as it is evidenced even by the voting and the contributions that we have given, would I be in order to call upon the Mover to reply? view
  • 16 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I will try to be very brief. Today was a very historic moment in this country. It was historic because this Parliament has been known as the club of 222. We have been known as a club of 222 against the country because we have not been feeling the pulse of the nation. We seem to be always going against the grain. Today, we have not gone against the grain and for those of us who have been listening to the media and to the mood of the country, we ... view
  • 15 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. While I support the amendment to the amendment, will I be in order to seek that we actually amend and include the whole part on human rights? view
  • 10 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Minister clarify why the Government always seems to be applying different standards when alleged abusers are of different races from the general population of this country? I have been dealing with cases of children for a long time, since the time I was the Director of CRADLE. Every view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Education:- (a) whether he could explain the rationale behind the policy that the language of instruction in lower primary schools is the local language view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, with due respect to the Assistant Minister, I do not know whether he was actually a beneficiary of this policy which is evident in the way he has responded to my Question. In part “a” of the Question, I have asked him to explain the rationale behind the policy that the language of instruction in lower primary schools is the local language in rural areas and urban areas, and English in the city and town schools. What he has done is basically restate what I have told him in other words. That is why I am ... view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I am the one who has raised this question and I am listening to all the information that we are receiving which is very good and healthy, but it is very irrelevant for this purpose. If you look at the gist of my Question, it is about discrimination and equalization of opportunities. If we are teaching children in the rural areas in their mother tongue; if you are teaching people in my rural Rusinga in Suba, why can we not teach the children in Nairobi in Suba, Kisii, Kiluhya or Kigiriama? ... view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of Order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. In reference to the Assistant Minister’s answer, would I be in order to request him to Table before this House the results from Nyanza province and Nairobi Province? view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Yes Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Would it be in order to ask that the question be deferred until he gives a comprehensive answer because he has not answered appropriately? view
  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I wish to second this Motion. One of the most obvious reasons for my support is because a bloated Cabinet is too costly for this country. I think a lot has been said in the past about the expenses pertaining to a bloated Cabinet. The Mover has actually alluded to some of those expenses and I will not go into that. I would, however, say that some of those resources could be invested in more worthy causes that this country needs, including famine relief. We know that we are facing a food crisis in ... view
