  • 29 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the very outset, I want to support this Bill. These Bills are very crucial. You remember the EAC has become a model of other integrations. It has been modeled on the European Union (EU) and it has benefitted immensely. view
  • 29 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, this country has got a lot of skilled manpower that can be exported. In the legal fraternity, for instance, we have about 7,000 lawyers and the market is not big enough in this country. So, it is very important that the legal profession can practice in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. I think time has come also for us to extend and enlarge the EAC to include Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti and others. Why do I say so? I say so because the market will grow. If right now the EAC is about 150 million and when ... view
  • 29 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: No. I am a bit tall and that is why. Let me come down like this. view
  • 29 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, time has come for us not only to think big, but to organise ourselves because this country is one of the most vibrant. It is the driving factor of the EAC. You will realise that Kenya has one of the largest elites – people who are highly educated and skilled and that is why I was saying that we need to export this skilled manpower across the borders. You will realise that Tanzania and Uganda do not have many in the legal profession. That is why I was saying that we need to export some of ... view
  • 29 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, in terms of education, we need to have a similar system. You remember Tanzania had the “A” Level system unlike the 8-4-4 system. Uganda has the “A” Level system. We need to have a system where all the countries, whether you are in Tanzania, Uganda or here in Kenya, have a similar system such that, when you want to transfer your credits to another university or you want to work in another country, people can understand and read your papers in tandem with the rest--- view
  • 26 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Today is an exciting day for me. I am excited as I was when the CDF Bill was moved. It is a new dawn for northern Kenya, particularly the marginalized areas. If you look at what has happened in our country for the last 50 years, particularly in northern Kenya, you will really cry. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, 50 years down the line, we have no tarmacked roads, electricity and even quality education. You will realize that in our areas, majority of the people are living below the poverty line. Others are even asking ... view
  • 26 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, you will also realize that Kenya is the third recipient of relief food, after North Korea and Ethiopia. We are the third largest recipient of relief food. view
  • 26 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I was saying that Kenya is the third recipient of relief food, after Ethiopia and North Korea. We know that North Korea is a failed state and Ethiopia is almost a failed state, sorry to say that. But Kenya has never had war. Why are we the third recipient of relief food in the globe? That shows where we are. We are celebrating in Nairobi that Kenya is developed and has the best roads, like the one from Nairobi to Thika, which is a super-highway, but where are the rest? About 70 per cent of Kenyans ... view
  • 25 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I rise to support this Motion. I know those two prominent Kenyans will really introduce changes in PSC. I know Dr. Ali for sure because we have been with him in Parliament and I am sure he is going to deliver. It is hon. Leshore and I who really fought for PSC. Before that, Parliament used to be part and parcel of the Office of the President. We were just an extension. We never used to have PSC and the conditions were very bad. Let me tell you that what we are enjoying today is as ... view
