  • 30 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a matter of public interest because it involves a school which has students, and there is a contest between the school community and the two grandchildren of the late mzee . There is already an agreement to the effect that Kshs1.6 million is the amount requested by these grandchildren. Since the Minister has sufficient information, instead of waiting for four weeks, why can he not settle quickly with the two grandchildren, and give an undertaking that he will be able to settle the Kshs1.6 million vis-a-vis the national interest involved in this matter? view
  • 29 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this very important Motion. Mr. Speaker, Sir, from the outset, I want to thank the Mover, hon. Karua, for bringing this matter to the attention of the House. I think that it is an important matter that deserves our attention. I want to begin by condemning the killings of the Sheikh in Mombasa. It is worth noting that this is not the first time that an incident like that has happened in Mombasa. A few months ago, another prominent Sheikh was mysteriously murdered. Therefore, as ... view

  • 22 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, first of all, I want to thank the Minister for this Statement and particularly for tabling this very important Report. If the Government had implemented the contents of that Report, I am sure there would have been no death at all. Mr. Speaker, Sir, we have a Government that has intelligence. There is a department that constantly gives intelligence information to various departments of Government. I want to ask the Minister: Why did they have to wait until now when there is death of one innocent old man and people sustaining critical injuries? As we speak now, ... view
  • 22 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I just want to find out something from the Minister. If you look at the list given, it is very clear that the sharing of these scholarships in the country is not even. It is also not even in the constituencies or the counties. When they advertize and make a decision, why can they not print out the names of those who have been given the scholarships in the same manner in which they ask for applicants to apply? This is because in between the application and the interview period, there is a lot of mischief ... view
  • 22 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, this is a very important Bill and I want to support it from the outset. I want to support it because people are saying that the security threats in this country are many. My position is that we politicians are the biggest security threat in this country. That is why you find these officers following you everywhere. If you were not a threat, they would not be following you everywhere you go. I want to agree with those who have said that the National Security Intelligence Service (NSIS) should be given the power to arrest. In ... view
  • 21 Aug 2012 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I heard the Minister refer to “Somali hawkers”. Is he talking about Kenyan Somalis or which Somalis is he talking about? view
