  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: Regarding the issue of audit, I think it should be done so that we can understand our immigration systems and overhaul it. We need to look at the issue of our porous borders and agree fully that we must also devolve our security responsibility as much as it is a national duty. We need to make sure that there is involvement of the common people even in the villages and vijijis like in Kibera and Mathare. This should also include up-market areas like Lavington, Parklands, Westlands and so on. We must sub- divide our neighbourhood in such a way that ... view
  • 24 Sep 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, regarding the issue of flags, I agree that this is a day to mourn, but I think it is also a day to show defiance. I will actually ask all Kenyans to put flags on their cars and the other flags to remain high. This is the day to have our spirits high. I am sure even the dead would like us to show bravery and not to show that we are mourning in the sense that we have been defeated. This is the day we should fly our flags very high and not at half mast. ... view

  • 19 Sep 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I know some of the people affected by these demolitions. I am fully aware that some of them had genuinely issued titles given by the Government of Kenya. My worry is, how was it that a Kenyan citizen, who may have worked very hard and put all his savings and retirement benefits towards building a home or a structure, could have been allocated Government land? The Government later came back and demolished the structures. It is important to know how these titles were issued, in the first place, when they knew that this land was a ... view
  • 18 Sep 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I stand to support this Motion which is very important to all the areas that are peripheral and which are faced with challenges of cattle rustling. KPRs are people who are given ammunition. They are given guns and that is it. They are left without any guidance, training and support for their families. I concur with the Mover that they sacrifice a lot in the name of the community. However, at the same time, I also know that the fact that someone has a gun and has not been supported in any way can have ... view

  • 17 Sep 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, pardon me for interrupting earlier. I am here to seek a Statement from the Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations about the deteriorating security situation in Isiolo. We have had relative peace for the last one year or so in Isiolo which earlier on was a hot spot. We as leaders have got together and managed a very successful election by trying to share and have a very inclusive leadership. Unfortunately, a land border issue is creeping into Isiolo and I have to seek this Statement this early in order that this matter ... view
