  • 27 Jul 2021 in Senate: How can small boys grow so big and make so much money in a span of five years? That is the nature of that world. In two years’ time, you can move from a millionaire to a billionaire if you have an idea that can sell. That is the environment and ecosystem we want to build. In my county, I have come across some young men and women who have established what we call DayHub. They have done it without support from the county or national Government. It is just a group of ICT enthusiasts who have come together to ... view

  • 27 Jul 2021 in Senate: We do not need to prescribe on the ownership bit but we must find a way of ensuring that venture capital firms are also providing access to capital to startups that have been established by Kenyans. One does not need to hire a face for them to get money. Many local startups are hiring faces so that they can access capital. Madam Temporary Speaker, the other challenge has been the issue of theft of ideas. There are people who are currently claiming that M-Pesa was their innovation. Some of the biggest innovations in the country have such as ‘Please call ... view

  • 27 Jul 2021 in Senate: The light industries in the rural areas are the ones that will move us to the next level. Can we qualify them or is this Bill only going to cater for the switched on youths who can get access to Wifi in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Nakuru? Madam Temporary Speaker, I support this Bill. However, I believe that there could be a few other issues that could be looked into such as the issue on regulations. I am sure that we can use regulatory sun boxes to deal with the issues that have not been captured in the Bill because ... view
  • 27 Jul 2021 in Senate: pusher hopes that he will one day own a Mercedes-Benz Actros. We should think big because this is the start. Let us have incubator and startups. Let us encourage Kenyans to think about the top rather than the bottom. I beg to support. view
  • 14 Jul 2021 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to add my voice on the statement by Sen. Kasanga on the Kenya Mental Health Action Plan (2021-2025), but with very local perspective to it. Two days ago, I visited the Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital just to check the state of the hospital and its preparedness to deal with the fourth wave of COVID-19 that is expected in July. There has been a lot of focus on the ICU beds, ventilators, oxygen and all the other things related to fighting the COVID-19. We have forgotten to consider the mental health of our health ... view
  • 14 Jul 2021 in Senate: that have been locked down more so Homa Bay County is that there are cases of close 30 people in isolation and there is a death reported daily. The COVID-19 pandemic has generally affected the elderly in the society. For some interesting reason, mostly men. The nurses and doctors in the hospitals are everyday seeing their fathers, uncles, pastors and community leader succumbing to COVID-19 pandemic. These doctors are also humans. In as much as they are used to cadavers, blood and all those things, it is never the same when it is you father, mother, brother or church leader ... view

  • 7 Jul 2021 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think it would be fair on the Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources, if you just gave a minute or two, for the House to commend the Committee for bringing to this House reports on 12 petitions. I do not think there is any other Committee that has done so. When you look at Sen. Mwangi, you do not think he is capable of bringing 12 reports to the House. However, he has done better than any other committee chairperson in terms of dealing with petitions. I think it is fair that the House registers ... view
