we want to go back to history and dwell on the justices or injustices that were committed to us. We will only be respected in Africa if we build a strong economy. Our economy is not growing at the rate that will make Kenya a superpower in Africa. We cannot afford to be growing at 4 or 5 per cent when Tanzania is growing at 7 per cent. We must put all our thoughts, attention and efforts on growing an economy and the least metric should be 7 per cent annual growth. That is when we will be respected. We ...

Kenyatta National Teaching and Referral Hospital at some point was attracting medical tourists from the region. Those are the quiet ways of strengthening yourself on the continental stage. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is not about how loud we are on Twitter . There is this thing called KOT, Kenyans on Twitter or Kenyans online. You only project strength through certain attributes, not noise making and not attacking other people online. We need to go back to our transport sector. Part of our comparative advantage as a country is our location. It is geography that allows us to have a ...

When it comes to issues of the original sin, we have a lot to say about that in this country. The first Deputy President to be thrown out of office without ceremony was Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. He picked himself up. He did not go inciting hateful tribal sentiments, but went and formed the Kenya Peoples Union (KPU). Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was put under house detention. His son, Raila Amolo Odinga, was in detention for eight years fighting for this country. When he left detention, he did not come out bitter. He did not build artificial warriors and soldiers. He did ...

Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I join the House in conveying my condolences to the family of the late Sen. Cheptumo. I have had the privilege of being in Parliament with Sen. Cheptumo from the 11th, 12th and 13th Parliament. We have now served together in the Senate Liaison Committee. I wish to extend my condolences to the family, especially the children who have been left behind, the spouse and the direct family members. The people of Baringo have also lost a wise leader. He was very influential in this House in a very quiet manner. He was not a heckler, ...

We want to assure the people of Baringo that even if Sen. Cheptumo is not with us today that their interests will still be catered for by the remaining Senators. One area that will be contentious will be the formula for sharing of revenue amongst counties. However, even if Sen. Cheptumo is not here and even if they have not decided on their next Senator, those of us who are remaining will ensure that Baringo does not lose even a single cent in any formula or in any arrangement when it comes to division and allocation of revenue. Finally, I ...

Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I rise to support the Environmental Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024. I also want to congratulate Sen. Abdul Mohamed Haji who is the Sponsor of this Bill. This is an important Bill. It is surprising that existing legislation has not provided for what Sen. Abdul Haji is calling for in this amendment Bill. This Bill seeks to amend the existing Act, to make further provisions for afforestation and reforestation of forests in counties in Kenya. This was a pet subject in the administration of President Daniel Arap Moi. Out of the many things he did, for those ...

approach. He went and approached friends from South Africa who gave him a small aircraft and seed balls. I recall him flying all over the Mau and dropping seed balls. We should not think about this issue of reforestation through the prism of the traditional digging of a hole and planting a tree. Even seed balls have been found to be quite effective. I encourage county governments to adopt that approach. It would be easy to use youth groups, women groups and organized groups and give them those seed balls. Let them scatter them and spread them so that when ...
