  • 3 Mar 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I quite appreciate the urgency of the matter and I appreciate the frustration that my colleague, Sen. Wetangula, is expressing. However, the Committee met this morning after having been in Eldoret to find out what the problem at the university is. It was very painful this morning when we discussed that this Statement cannot be read today because we have not received all the information required. Therefore, we are just praying with the House for understanding. What would have been brought here this afternoon would have been incomplete information which perhaps would have been more dangerous and ... view
  • 3 Mar 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, from the outset, I want to support the nominees as presented. When we look at these names, we support the work done by the Committee. They look like able Kenyans and people who can do the job that needs to get done. Even though I do not personally know most of them, I do know that Mr. Mohamed The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate. view
  • 11 Feb 2015 in Senate: Thank you very much Mr. Speaker, Sir. From the outset, I wish to join my colleagues in condoling with the families of the late Member of Parliament, Hon. Muchai, as well as his colleagues; the bodyguards and his driver who were killed with him. The assassination of Hon. Muchai leaves us cold in our bones. This illustrates that in effect, we are not safe. None of us is safe if the late Hon. Muchai, with his two bodyguards, in the middle of Nairobi streets can be killed, never mind the reason why. The problem as it were is that in ... view
  • 11 Feb 2015 in Senate: On a point of Order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am seeking guidance from you. Where a question has been asked and a Statement has been given to the person who has asked the question and it has not been read in the House for some time, what are we supposed to do? Would I be in order to propose that either the Statement is then sufficiently done because the person who asked the question has got the answer or we enforce that as soon as the Statement has been given to the questioner, as Sen (Dr.) Khalwale would say, we ... view
  • 11 Feb 2015 in Senate: Sorry, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I think you lost me at some point. I think you said that it dies but it is half-dead. It is still breathing because you have the Statement. All that remains is for the Statement to be given on the Floor of the House. In that case, I think the Statement should actually be read by the person. Otherwise, it remains the property of one individual instead of the property of the House. view
  • 26 Nov 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I wish to, first of all, condemn in the strongest terms possible, those who would wish to abuse our fellow Senator. view
  • 26 Nov 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you very much. Much obliged. There are three things we are faced with here. The first one has to do with the security of Sen. Hassan. I agree that we must not take it lightly. We must not assume that these people are just speaking from the darkness. There must be a reason they are saying so, and there are or they, probably, have masters or crazy people who can react tomorrow in a manner that can harm Sen. Hassan. Therefore, among the things I believe that were asked from you, I would also urge you ... view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. We are really concerned about this debate in the sense that it is a serious matter. I agree with Sen. Wetangula that we are talking about a very serious matter in Kenya. What is concerning me – and I would like to know whether it is in order – is our doubt without any reason, whether or not the Government’s position is correct. Under normal circumstances, when a nation is under attack from the outside, we would normally believe our own people more than we believe outsiders. There is a notion ... view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, is the Senate Minority Leader in order to say that there is no evidence, when in today’s newspapers, they have published material that clearly indicates that what the Deputy President said was correct? Can we stick to the issue concerning Kenyans? view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, first and foremost, I send my condolences, like my colleagues, to the families of those who died in this tragedy. Among those who died are Karimi Muthenja and Kathambi Muthenja, two sisters, from Nyeri. Therefore, I am sending condolences to the people of Kakamega, Vihiga, Nyeri and others who perished. The reason I thought it was important for me to mention those names, is that there is not any region or area that the Government is not looking after. It is not one region that is being ignored. The people from Nyeri are in the mortuary, ... view
