(b) My Ministry is in the process of selecting a consulting firm to undertake a feasibility study for the water supply and sanitation for Kerugoya and six other towns in Kenya. The study is being funded through a grant from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, BADEA. Once the study is completed and the cost of implementation established, my Ministry will include the project in its forward budget. view
  • 18 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am aware of the situation. The Kshs5 million was set aside and when tenders were floated, the lowest bidder quoted about Kshs7 million. Therefore, the project could not have been undertaken. I am now in the process of tendering. Once that process is through, the tender will be awarded. I hope the work will be completed within the current financial year. We will be able to do the works in the next financial year. view

The existing water supply, which is partially completed, gets water from a borehole source that does not have adequate yield to meet the increased water demand for the town. River Sare has been identified as a reliable and adequate water source for the expanded system. However, my Ministry will drill and equip one borehole in this Financial Year 2007/2008. (b) Once the detailed design is completed and the cost estimate established, my Ministry will include the project in ... view
  • 12 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to appreciate what the hon. Member and his CDF Committee have done on allocating Kshs4 million to this project. However, I want to assure him that if he wants us to drill the borehole after the general elections, we will do it. However, I want to do it immediately. view
  • 12 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to confirm to the hon. Member that I have the money in my books and I will drill the borehole immediately. view
  • 11 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to make my contribution to this Vote, which is very important for all of us. This is because we require security to be able to perform our day-to-day activities. I would like to start by thanking the Minister. Although some hon. Members have expressed disappointment in the way he has handled a few issues, I am personally very happy with the way he has handled his docket. There is no way you can compromise with criminals. Some hon. Members may want him to compromise with criminals, but you cannot compromise ... view
