Deputy Speaker, the Member stated that the monopoly has discouraged other companies from investing in the business and yet, there is no law in Kenya that monopolizes the trade in nuts. Hon. Aburi requested the Chairperson of the Committee to specifically inquire into and report on:- (i) why Kenya Nut Company is being allowed to monopolize the trade in Macadamia nuts contrary to the law; and (ii) what the Government was doing to rectify the situation and make the market competitive to allow other companies to trade. Secondly, the growers have an association called the ... view
  • 3 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I want to confirm that even in Subukia Constituency, we have Macadamia. So, I know it is an affair of the whole country but when I was saying that Meru people should do that, I think I was trying to promote Meru County. So, if Meru or any other county can do that, it will be good. Secondly, I want to say that it is not only one company that is allowed to export Macadamia. Maybe, it is only one company that has the capacity to export. Otherwise, any company that can process Macadamia does not even ... view

  • 1 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Yes, hon. Deputy Speaker, but if you heard hon. Kabando very well, he said that he wants to know exactly how much money has been recovered to-date. So, we cannot rely on information that we got four months ago. We have to ask the National Treasury to give us an updated Statement. That is why I requested for two weeks. Maybe, they have since recovered more money. view
