23 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
Based on these facts, there is absolutely no reason as to why Kenya cannot feed her people and even record food surplus. Currently, we are pursuing Vision 2030 anchored on the economic, social and political pillars, but I have said it before, and I want to say it here again, that meaningful development must follow in the footsteps of food sufficiency. It does not make sense for us to be pursuing an ambitious development blue print like Vision 2030 when all we see every year is large sections of the Kenyan population holding out begging bowls for food. For me, ...

23 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, other than the fact that we do not produce sufficient food, there is also the problem of too much waste. I was recently reading an article prepared by one of the parastatals in the agricultural sector, in which it is estimated that annually, the amount of food lost in Kenya approximates to as much as Kshs40 billion worth of cash. We must go beyond merely pursuing production, and find a way of even keeping what we produce. That is why as we roll out into the counties, one of the areas we have to pay ...

22 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Last week I requested a Ministerial Statement on what most Kenyans felt was very unfair treatment of a Kenyan. The request was to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. I would have thought that the Minister had actually undertaken to bring it today. This is a matter that concerns the whole country – the IIFA nominations. The Ministerial Statement is due today.

17 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I honestly would like to inform the Assistant Minister and my colleagues. I agree entirely with what the Assistant Minister is doing. Recently, I attended a seminar and the problem we have is that some of our universities are too ambitious. One of the Vice-Chancellors in a leading university offered to offer a course in geothermal engineering. There is nothing like geothermal engineering. To be a geothermal engineer you need to be a hydrologist, a geologist and so on. I think the Assistant Minister is very right. I want to plead with my colleagues that the process ...

Ana haki?

16 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to follow up on the point of order that was raised by Dr. Nuh. I think it is important that the Assistant Minister tables evidence to show that drugs have been destroyed. We see containers and bails being destroyed. We see combustible items burning but we do not know whether they are drugs or things that look like drugs. Really, it is important that he brings evidence to show that. It could be unga or anything that can burn. So, it is important that we get that evidence.

15 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I wish to request for a Ministerial Statement from the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports on the nomination and award criteria used by the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) in selecting the IAAF athlete of the year. In the Statement, the Minister should clarify and state the following:- (i)The criteria used by IAAF in nominating considering winners of IAAF World Athlete of the Year. (ii)To what extent local athletics federations like the Athletics Kenya (AK) are involved in the nomination, selection and shortlisting of athletes to be considered for the prestigious award of the IAAF World ...

3 Nov 2011 in National Assembly:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute on this Motion. I am happy that today we are debating the Commission on Administrative Justice. I support this Motion because I think it is important that we have a body that can restore confidence in the public service in Kenya. It is important that Kenyans know that when they complain somebody will be listening. Orderly conduct is important in any society but sometimes you get very frustrated. I think some of these frustrations you get them especially when you have an issue with ...
